Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Goes 0-for-4 on Tuesday

Rizzo went 0-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Rizzo has been scuffling a bit lately, as he has just one hit in his last 15 at-bats and he's hitting just .241 this month. Rizzo is too talented to stay in a slump for long.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Cardinals' Luke Voit: Smacks pinch-hit blast in loss

Voit blasted a solo home run in a pinch-hit at-bat during Monday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs.

The rookie hasn't drawn a start since Aug. 30, and his seventh-inning solo blast was his first round tripper since July 9. The 25-year-old has acquitted himself reasonably well in his first regular-season exposure to big-league arms, slashing .250/.308/.444 with four homers and 18 RBI over 117 plate appearances, although his 25.6 percent strikeout rate leaves plenty of room for improvement. Voit will look to make an impression in spring training next year and build on the experience he gained this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Out of lineup Monday

Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.

The Diamondbacks clinched home field for the NL wild-card game with Sunday's walkoff win, so Goldschmidt will get a well-deserved breather Monday. In his place, Christian Walker will start at first base and bat cleanup.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Pirates' Josh Bell: Struggling down the stretch

Bell, who went hitless in three at-bats Sunday, is slashing .138/.219/.155 in his last 64 plate appearances.

He's driven in just one run despite batting fourth or fifth in all 17 games. The Pirates as a whole have struggled to produce offense in September, and Bell may simply be running out of steam in his first full MLB season. Despite the slump, the 25-year-old ranks second on the team with 595 plate appearances and a .787 OPS.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Sitting out Monday afternoon

Cabrera is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Braves, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

Phillip Evans will start at third base and hit fourth while Cabrera sits out. Over the last seven games, Cabrera has gone 4-for-18 (.222) at the plate. However, despite his weak batting average, he's managed to drive in three runs in that time.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Positioned on bench Sunday

Cabrera is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Cabrera will head to the bench following five straight starts -- a stretch in which he went 3-for-16 at the plate. Phillip Evans will take over at third base and bat sixth in the order in his stead.

  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Back in lineup Sunday

Freeman (illness) is starting at first base and batting third during Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Freeman missed Saturday's game with an illness but is apparently feeling better and ready to rejoin the starting lineup. He'll look to build on his .314 average, 28 home runs and 71 RBI over the final days of the season.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Pirates' Josh Bell: Out of lineup Sunday

Bell is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Bell is hitting just .178 this month and hasn't collected a multi-hit game since Sept. 8. Manager Clint Hurdle will give the struggling 25-year-old the day off, with Jose Osuna taking over at first base and batting cleanup in his stead.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Clubs homer in Saturday loss

Goldschmidt went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 12-6 loss to the Marlins.

After the Marlins tallied five runs in the top half of the third inning, Goldschmidt cut his team's deficit to one run in the bottom half of the frame with his 36th long ball of the season. That home run matched his previous career best from 2013, when he also drove in a career-high 125 runs. With 120 RBI on the season, Goldschmidt will have a good chance to establish a new personal best in that category with seven games remaining on the Diamondbacks' schedule.

  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Dealing with illness

Freeman will not be available for Saturday's game against the Phillies due to an illness, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

It seemed initially that Freeman was being held out Saturday after a long run of consecutive starts, but it turns out he is under the weather and was sent home for the day. The Braves are hoping he will be able to return to the lineup Sunday.
