D-Backs slugger Paul Goldschmidt rests for second time in 2015
For just the second time in 107 games this season, Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was not in the starting lineup Thursday at Washington. Jarrod Saltalamacchia started at first base in Goldschmidt's absence.
Goldschmidt snapped a 0-for-15 slump to start August with a three-hit performance Wednesday against the Nationals. He has a .339/.453/.580/1.033 slash line through 106 games.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo went 4 for 5 in Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh.
Rizzo is 12 for his last 24 over the last six games. He doubled twice and scored twice.
Rizzo had his first four-hit game since April 9 of last season.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman returned to the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after suffering a strained right oblique Monday. Freeman was on the disabled list for about a month from late June to late July due to a wrist injury.
Since returning to action July 25, Freeman hit .184 (7 for 38) with one double, two home runs, four RBI, three runs, one walk and six strikeouts in 10 games (nine starts).

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was forced to exit Monday's game against the Giants due to a right oblique injury, the team announced.
Freeman went 0 for 2 before suffering a strained oblique and is considered day to day. He was replaced by Chris Johnson.

The Reds have given slugging first baseman Joey Votto the afternoon off Saturday against Pittsburgh. Ivan De Jesus is playing the position instead.
Votto, who has not missed a game since June 17, owns a fine slash line of .309/.432/.532. His on-base percentage ranks fourth in the majors. He has 12 walks in his last seven games.

Has there been a hotter hitter over the last four days than Anthony Rizzo? The Cubs' star first baseman went 2 for 4 in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Brewers. He slugged a three-run home run, his fourth home run in four days.
Rizzo has been on fire in those four days, batting a ridiculous .533 with the four homers and nine RBI in that stretch.

Mets second baseman Wilmer Flores went 2 for 5 with a walk-off home run and two RBI in his team's win over the Nationals on Friday.
Flores drove in both of his team's runs during a 12-inning, 2-1 victory over Washington. Flores came to bat in the bottom of the 12th and hit the game-winning home run to left center off Nationals reliever Felipe Rivero.
Over his last nine games, Flores is hitting .297 with 11 hits, a double, a home run and four RBI.
