Hoskins is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Hoskins will receive a breather during the day game after he started at first base and played all nine innings of the Brewers' 17-2 win Wednesday night while going 0-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Bauers will spell Hoskins at first base Thursday.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol is weighing the possibility of moving the slumping Contreras down in the batting order, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Contreras has gotten off to a dreadful start this season, going 5-for-49 with 22 strikeouts, and he's done so while mostly batting second for St. Louis. The 32-year-old is a good bet to eventually get going offensively, but it's possible he'll be moved to a lower profile spot in the batting order while he's scuffling. If Marmol wants to continue alternating his lefty and righty hitters, Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn would appear to be the most likely candidates to be elevated to the No. 2 spot, if Contreras is indeed dropped lower in the lineup.

Horwitz (wrist) has progressed to taking batting practice, throwing and fielding ground balls, MLB.com reports.

Horwitz has been swinging since early March, though his progression to batting practice is significant. He's still a few weeks away from a rehab assignment, which is projected to begin in late April or early May.

Harper went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks Wednesday in a 4-3 win against Atlanta.

Harper came up big for the Phillies in the seventh inning, crushing a two-run homer to center field to give the team a one-run lead. The star first baseman reached base three total times in the contest, and he's been able to get on base safely in all but one of his 11 games so far this season. Harper's long ball Wednesday was just his second this season, but he's been relatively productive with a .279/.380/.465 slash line, five RBI and seven runs.

Naylor went 3-for-4 with a home run and three total RBI in Wednesday's 9-0 win over the Orioles.

Naylor opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before extending the lead to 5-0 with a homer off Dean Kremer in the fifth. While the home run was Naylor's first this season, he's gotten off to a nice start with Arizona, going 16-for-47 (.340) with a .929 OPS, nine RBI and three stolen bases through 13 games.

Mervis went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Mets.

While a fifth-inning RBI single that brought home the game's first run wound up being all the offense Max Meyer and the Marlins' bullpen would need, Mervis added some impressive insurance by golfing an Edwin Diaz slider over the right-field fence in the ninth for a two-run shot. After a 2-for-15 start to the season, Mervis has heated up with six hits and six RBI in the last four games, including his first three long balls of 2025.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Freeman (ankle) will be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Freeman has not played any rehab games, but he's been taking live batting practice the last few days and will be thrown back into the lineup this weekend against the Cubs. The veteran first baseman has been out since late March after tweaking his surgically repaired right ankle when he slipped in the shower.

Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to Washington.

Hernandez concluded the scoring in the contest with a solo shot to left field in the eighth inning. The utility man has taken on a prominent role in the Dodgers' lineup of late, as he's been starting at first base while Freddie Freeman has been on the injured list due to an ankle injury. Hernandez is batting a meager .111 on the season, but all four of his hits have left the park, and that has allowed him to rack up a healthy seven RBI over 39 plate appearances.

Schmitt went 2-for-3 with a double during Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Reds and could be in the mix for more playing time moving forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 26-year-old drew the start at first base before being moved to second in the eighth inning, following LaMonte Wade's entry into the game. Schmitt accounted for two of San Francisco's four hits in the low-scoring affair, including his first double of the season, which he lined into left field during the second frame. The utility infielder has the defensive ability to compete for more playing time, and he is now slashing .222/.300/.333 with a double across 10 plate appearances.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in Tuesday's 10-5 win over Miami.

Alonso registered his first RBI of the game in the third inning, and he proceeded to drive in three more runs on a bases-clearing double in the sixth frame to give the Mets a four-run lead. Alonso has logged two hits in each of his last three games and has recorded at least four RBI in three games this season. Alonso has gone 12-for-30 with four walks, five doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI over his last eight outings.
