Mets' Pete Alonso: Connects for 29th homer
Alonso went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Thursday in a 3-2 loss to San Francisco.
Alonso got the Mets on the board in the sixth inning with a blast to left field, which chased Giants starter Alex Wood from the contest. It was the 29th homer of the year for Alonso, who has produced a .317/.379/.633 line with five homers across his last 15 games.

Matt Beaty 1B | KC
Dodgers' Matt Beaty: Demoted to minors
Beaty was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
Beaty lost out on the roster spot as the team was forced to recall Darien Nunez to have enough bullpen arms after a 16-inning game Wednesday night. In 215 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season, Beaty has recorded a .262/.358/.374 line.

Luke Voit 1B | NYM
Yankees' Luke Voit: Out of Thursday's lineup
Voit is not starting in Thursday's lineup against the Athletics.
Voit was out of the lineup early in the week as the team was in Atlanta and did not have the benefit of a designated hitter. While his absence now extends an additional game, manager Aaron Boone said that Voit is likely to be in the lineup throughout the rest of the team's weekend series at Oakland.

Yandy Diaz DH | TB
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Clutch single in win
Diaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Phillies on Wednesday.
Diaz's timely fourth-inning knock snapped a 1-1 tie at the time. The 30-year-old now sports a four-game hitting streak that's seen him go 6-for-14 with an RBI, two walks and three runs, and he should continue to log consistent action at first base while Ji-Man Choi (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Donovan Solano 1B | TEX
Giants' Donovan Solano: Lands on injured list
Solano was placed on the injured list for an undisclosed reason Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Since the Giants didn't provide an injury designation for Solano, he's likely on the COVID-19 injured list. If that's the case, he'll be eligible to rejoin the team as soon as he clears the league's health and safety protocols.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Out for season
Hoskins will undergo surgery to repair a lower abdominal issue and will miss the remainder of the season, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Hoskins returned to the injured list with a left groin strain Thursday, but he also has an abdominal issue that he had been dealing with since before the groin injury cropped up in late July. The 28-year-old appeared in 107 games this season and slashed .247/.334/.530 with 27 home runs, 71 RBI and 64 runs. Brad Miller will take over as the Phillies' primary first baseman for the stretch run.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Diamondbacks' Asdrubal Cabrera: Starting after all
Updating a previous report, Cabrera will start at third base and bat third Thursday versus the Phillies.
Cabrera was scheduled to get a breather in the series opener, but he was a late addition to the lineup after Arizona scratched David Peralta and Josh VanMeter. As a 35-year-old on an expiring contract, Cabrera wouldn't seem to have much of a future on a rebuilding club like Arizona, so he'll likely see his opportunities take a hit during the final month of the season.

Carlos Santana 1B | ARI
Royals' Carlos Santana: Won't start Thursday
Santana (hip) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.
Santana's Grade 1 right hip flexor strain will relegate him to the bench for the third game in a row. His absence indirectly opens up a spot in the lineup for Hanser Alberto, who will bat seventh as Kansas City's designated hitter.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Lands on 10-day IL
Hoskins was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain Thursday.
Hoskins returned from the injured list Sunday and blasted his 27th home run of the season in Wednesday's loss to the Rays, but he's still managing a groin issue and will spend some more time on the 10-day IL. Brad Miller will likely serve as the primary first baseman in Hoskins' absence, while Luke Williams will be available in a depth role.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Diamondbacks' Asdrubal Cabrera: Not starting Thursday
Cabrera isn't starting Thursday's game against the Phillies.
Manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Cabrera may see less playing time across the final few weeks of the season, and the 35-year-old will be out of the lineup for a second straight game. Josh VanMeter will take over at the hot corner and bat third.
