Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Continues surge in slugfest

Hoskins went 3-for-5 with a home run, a pair of doubles and four RBI in Tuesday's 15-10 win over the Cubs.

The first baseman has gone 8-for-14 with three homers, four doubles and nine RBI in his last four games. Hoskins hit a two-run double in the second inning, a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a solo shot in the seventh to pile up four RBI in Tuesday's contest. He's raised his slash line to .236/.313/.492 with the recent surge. The 28-year-old has 20 long balls, 53 RBI, 45 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in 83 games so far.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Diamondbacks' Kole Calhoun: Progressing to AZL games

Calhoun (hamstring) is scheduled to play in an AZL game Thursday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

The veteran outfielder was set to run the bases Monday to test out his injured left hamstring, and things apparently went well as he's progressing to game action. Calhoun should continue ramping up his rehab work at Arizona's spring facility before embarking on a rehab assignment.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Not starting Tuesday

Dalbec isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Angels, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Dalbec started each of the last three games after returning from a hamstring injury, and he went 2-for-10 with four strikeouts. Danny Santana will take his place at first base and bat eighth.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Acquired by Brewers

The Brewers traded Toronto for Tellez on Tuesday in exchange for Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

The lefty slugger joins a first base corps that's without Daniel Vogelbach (hamstring) until August. Further, Keston Hiura's inconsistencies necessitated the addition of another first baseman. The Blue Jays optioned Tellez to Triple-A on June 22 after he hit .209 with four homers and eight RBI in 139 at-bats for them this season. The exact details of the trade are unclear at this time, but righty pitcher Richards is the main piece being dealt to the Blue Jays.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Slugs fourth homer

Diaz went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a win over Cleveland on Monday.

Diaz uncorked his fourth homer of the season in the seventh inning to bring the Rays within a run. The 29-year-old didn't notch his first round tripper of the season until June 6, but he's made up for lost time since that point and is now just 10 RBI shy of the career-high 38 he recorded in 2019.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Steals base in loss

Cronenworth went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Nationals.

Cronenworth singled and notched his fourth stolen base of the year in the first inning but was left standing on third. The 27-year-old reached twice more before the end of the fourth and came around to score both times. Cronenworth is slashing .280/.354/.464 with 12 homers, 34 RBI, 60 runs scored, and a 32:50 BB:K over 362 plate appearances, and as a result, he's been selected to his first All-Star Game as a reserve.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Homers in win

Bell went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI in Monday's 7-5 win over the Padres.

Bell had arguably the biggest hit of the night for the Nationals with a solo homer in the seventh to give them a 6-5 lead. The long ball was his 12th of the year and his two other base hits raised his slash line to .247/.313/.482 with 39 RBI and 37 runs scored. The 28-year-old has shown much improvement at the plate since the start of June, slashing .313/.387/.566. He hasn't struck out once over his last eight games.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Shaking off slump

Abreu went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-5 loss to Minnesota.

Abreu swatted his 15th homer in the sixth inning to put the White Sox on the board. It was the second home run in as many games for the slugging first baseman and third in the last six. June was not kind to Abreu, who batted .182 with eight RBI during the month, but he's matched that RBI total in just five July games (9-for-23, .391).

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Productive in blowout win

Bohm went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 13-3 win over the Cubs.

Bohm helped spark a six-run rally for Philadelphia in the eighth inning when he forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk. He later scored on an Odubel Herrera home run before adding a solo shot of his own in the ninth. Bohm hit .329 in June, but he's still posted a lackluster .240/.291/.336 slash line with five homers, 37 RBI, 35 runs scored and four stolen bases through 309 plate appearances this year.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Hoskins knocked an RBI single in the sixth inning and added a two-run homer in the ninth. With three long balls in his last six games, the first baseman may be setting up to finish the first half of the season strong. He's up to 19 homers, 49 RBI, 44 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .231/.310/.474 slash line through 345 plate appearances.
