  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Tallies two more hits in loss

Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Guardians.

Torkelson was the only Detroit player with multiple hits in the contest and he scored the team's lone run. The first baseman has been in a nice groove lately, as he's batting .375 over his last eight games. Overall, Torkelson is slashing .242/.335/.460, and he's mashed 29 home runs to go along with 74 RBI and 80 runs scored in what's been a bounceback campaign after a down 2024.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Nathaniel Lowe: Slumping in September

Lowe went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Atheltics.

Lowe has hit the skids after a productive start to his Red Sox tenure. He sported a .974 OPS with two home runs and eight RBI over his first 12 games in a Boston uniform, but Lowe has languished since then with a .576 OPS and just two RBI in the subsequent 13 contests.

  • Sal Stewart 1B | CIN

Reds' Sal Stewart: Fills in for injured teammate

Stewart started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Cubs.

Stewart manned the hot corner for a second consecutive game with Ke'Bryan Hayes nursing soreness in his back. Hayes, who entered as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning Thursday, is expected to see a specialist by Monday. Presumably, Stewart will continue to start at third base until Hayes is ready to resume a full-time role.

  • Blaine Crim 1B | COL

Rockies' Blaine Crim: Goes deep twice in loss

Crim went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Thursday's 9-7 loss to Miami.

The rookie cleared the fence twice Thursday with each drive carrying more than 400 feet. Just a week after delivering his first big-league long ball, Crim now owns his first multi-homer performance only 11 games into his MLB career. Since being recalled last week, the 28-year-old has swung the bat well, posting a .261 average (6-for-23) with three homers, a double, seven RBI and four runs scored across his first six games with Colorado since making his MLB debut in May.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Homers in fourth straight game

Alonso went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Padres.

Alonso opened the scoring with a 445-foot blast off Randy Vasquez with two outs in the first inning. Alonso's now homered in four straight games and six times in September, giving him 37 long balls on the year. Overall, the first baseman is slashing .270/.345/.526 with 121 RBI and 82 runs scored through 669 plate appearances this season.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Overcomes finger issue

Mountcastle (finger) will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Thursday's game versus the Yankees

Per Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com, Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino revealed that Mountcastle has been dealing with a finger issue the last two days, though it's unclear whether that's the only reason he's been out of the lineup. The 28-year-old's start Thursday is just his third over the past eight tilts.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Exiting starting nine

Gonzalez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Athletics.

The right-handed-hitting Gonzalez has seen more and more reps versus righties lately -- in addition to his regular starts against lefties -- but he'll take a seat for this one as the Athletics send righty J.T. Ginn to the bump. David Hamilton is at second base and batting seventh for the Red Sox.

  • Pirates' Enmanuel Valdez: Still not hitting

Valdez (shoulder) will not be cleared to start hitting until the offseason, MLB.com reports.

Valdez was originally expected to be cleared to play in winter ball, though this report places that in doubt. He continues to throw from 120 feet and is expected to resume fielding grounders in the next several days.

  • Alec Burleson LF | STL

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Cranks 18th home run

Burleson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Reds.

Burleson was basically the Cardinals' entire offense in this one, tallying his team's only RBI and only two extra-base hits. He's shown no ill effects after returning from a wrist injury earlier this month, slashing .278/.350/.583 with a pair of long balls over nine contests. Burleson is slated to be St. Louis' primary first baseman down the stretch following Willson Contreras' (shoulder) season-ending injury.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Slugs homer in victory

Freeman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Phillies in a 5-0 win Wednesday.

Freeman kicked off the scoring in the contest with a solo blast to center field in the second inning. He finished with his third multi-hit effort over his past five games, a span in which he's batting .391 (9-for-23) with four RBI. Freeman is up to 21 home runs, 83 RBI and an .863 OPS through 138 games, posting nearly identical numbers to the 22 long balls, 89 RBI and .854 OPS he registered over 147 regular-season contests last year.
