Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1B | TOR
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Receiving day off
Guerrero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
With Daniel Vogelbach serving as Toronto's designated hitter and with Spencer Horwitz getting the nod at first base, Guerrero will hit the bench for the first time all season in what appears to be routine maintenance. Guerrero went hitless in nine at-bats over his first two games of the series to bring his batting average down to .282 for the season.

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: In lineup against lefty
Lowe started at first base and went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 15-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Lowe, who had been held out of the starting lineup against the previous three left-handed starters the Rangers faced, was in the starting nine against lefty James Paxton. In those previous three games, Ezequiel Duran started at first base, but he was used at shortstop while Josh Smith was given a break and Corey Seager (hamstring) was unavailable. It's unclear if Lowe's start Tuesday signals that he's back in against lefties, or if it was a special case to give Smith a rest day.

Tyler Soderstrom C | ATH
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Goes yard again
Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.
Soderstrom has homered in back-to-back games, giving him three long balls this season. He's also hit safely in five of his last six contests, going 6-for-17 (.353) in that span. The 22-year-old had struggled to get anything going earlier in the season, but he's now at a .222/.347/.413 slash line with three homers, eight RBI and five runs scored over 75 plate appearances. He appears to have leapfrogged J.D. Davis for the starting role at first base, though Soderstrom would still have the advantage if it ultimately becomes a platoon situation.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Stays hot in loss
Vaughn went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.
Vaughn has hit safely in his last 11 games, going 16-for-44 (.364) with three homers and five RBI in that span. The first baseman is up to a .226/.283/.372 slash line with seven long balls, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base across 62 contests. Vaughn hasn't been at risk of losing playing time in the White Sox's weak offense, but his recent play has positioned him as one of the team's better batters after he shook off his slow start to the campaign.

Joey Gallo LF | CHW
Nationals' Joey Gallo: Managing hamstring injury
Manager Dave Martinez said that Gallo pulled his left hamstring during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gallo went 1-for-3 with a run scored prior to his departure from the game.
Gallo was grabbing at his hamstring after grounding out in the seventh inning, and he was immediately replaced at first base by Joey Meneses. Martinez said the Nationals will know more about the severity of Gallo's injury Wednesday, but the team will likely bring a minor-leaguer onto its taxi squad in case he needs to go on the injured list.

Keston Hiura 1B | LAD
Angels' Keston Hiura: Latches on with Angels
Hiura signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Hiura was released by Detroit on June 3 after slashing .232/.312/.401 through 199 plate appearances in Triple-A. The 27-year-old hasn't played in the majors since 2022 and will fill in as an organizational depth piece at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Jose Abreu 1B | HOU
Astros' Jose Abreu: Idle Tuesday
Abreu isn't in the Astros' lineup versus the Giants on Tuesday.
Prior to being absent from the lineup Tuesday, Abreu had made six straight starts and had made appearances in nine consecutive games, going 5-for-29 over the latter span. With the 37-year-old getting a breather, Jon Singleton will start at first and bat fifth.
-
Trenton Brooks DH | SD
Giants' Trenton Brooks: Not starting Tuesday
Brooks isn't in the Giants' lineup versus the Astros on Tuesday.
Brooks started in the last two games at first and went 1-for-6. Prior to the two starts Sunday and Monday, he did not appear in four consecutive games. The first baseman has been seeing more regular playing time with LaMonte Wade (hamstring) on the injured list, but Wilmer Flores will get the start at first base Tuesday.
-
Wilmer Flores 1B | SF
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting at first
Flores is back in the Giants' lineup versus the Astros on Tuesday.
Flores came away with some knee soreness after playing two straight series on turf surfaces in Arizona and Texas. Despite this, he was available off the bench Monday versus the Astros and got a hit in his lone plate appearance. With the 32-year-old starting at first and batting sixth, Trenton Brooks will take a seat.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand 1B | CIN
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Mulling season-ending wrist surgery
Reds manager David Bell revealed Tuesday that Encarnacion-Strand is considering season-ending surgery to repair ligament damage in his right wrist, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Encarnacion-Strand initially went on the 10-day injured list in early May with a fracture in the wrist, but subsequent testing has apparently shown ligament damage. If the infielder opts against surgery, it's not clear how much longer he might be sidelined. Encarnacion-Strand slashed only .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games before getting hurt.
