  • Keston Hiura 2B | LAD

Brewers' Keston Hiura: Handling short-side platoon role

Hiura will start at second base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Hiura will get his third start of the season, with each of those assignments coming against left-handed starting pitchers. He'll be filling in at the keystone Wednesday for the lefty-hitting Kolten Wong, who takes a seat with southpaw John Means on the hill for Baltimore.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Hitting third Wednesday

Cronenworth will start at second base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Giants.

After four straight games of batting cleanup, Cronenworth will move up a spot in the order with usual No. 2 hitter Austin Nola getting the day off. Cronenworth reached base a season-high three times in Tuesday's 13-2 loss, going 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks in the blowout.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Reds' Donovan Solano: Joining team for road trip

Manager David Bell said Solano (hamstring) will travel with the Reds for their upcoming four-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers that begins Thursday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Solano's presence on the road trip doesn't mean he'll be activated from the 10-day injured list this weekend, though it suggests that his return to the 28-man active roster isn't too far off. Once he's deemed ready to play, Solano should displace Brandon Drury as the Reds' top utility infielder and make regular starts against left-handed pitching.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Padres' Luke Voit: Notches first career theft

Voit went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.

Voit scored the Padres' first run of the contest and pushed his hitting streak to four games with a second-inning single, but it was his theft of second base that made the most noise. Prior to Tuesday, the slugger had logged 1,292 career plate appearances without even attempting to steal. It's safe to say that Voit's fantasy managers shouldn't expect speed to suddenly become part of his skill set.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Being placed on 10-day IL

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Wednesday that Kirilloff will be placed on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Minnesota isn't putting a timeline on his return, but given that Kirilloff's injury is related to his previous surgery, it wouldn't be surprising if he was sidelined for more than the 10-day minimum. He's expected to get imaging on the wrist and meet with team doctors in the coming days, at which point a clearer timeline for his return should emerge. Gilberto Celestino is filling in for Kirilloff in the outfield in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, but the Twins could recall Trevor Larnach from Triple-A St. Paul to serve as Kirilloff's primary replacement in left field while he's on the IL.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Making third start

Smith will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Smith will pick up his third start of the season while Robinson Cano takes a seat for the series finale and Pete Alonso gets a look as the Mets' designated hitter. After logging a career-high 493 plate appearances in 2021, Smith is expected to fill more of a part-time role for the Mets this season while the team has all of its key position players available.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Takes seat Wednesday

Hoskins isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Hoskins started in each of the first five games of the year and hit .294 with a homer, two doubles, four runs, four RBI, three walks and six strikeouts. Johan Camargo will take his place at first base and bat seventh Wednesday.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Connects on second homer

Bell went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 16-4 loss to Atlanta.

He went back-to-back with Juan Soto in the sixth inning against a fading Bryce Elder, but that barely made a dent in Atlanta's lead. Bell is off to a strong start to the season in large part because of Soto's presence in the batting order ahead of him, slashing .318/.423/.591 through six games with two homers and five RBI.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Cranks second homer

Walker went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 2-1 loss to the Astros on Tuesday.

Walker tied the game with his sixth-inning solo shot off Houston reliever Bryan Abreu, though that would be the only offense Arizona could muster. The 31-year-hold should continue to provide power in the heart of Arizona's lineup, but he has only one additional hit on top of the two home runs thus far.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Breaks out of slump

Flores went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two additional runs scored and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 13-2 victory over San Diego.

He was sitting with just one hit entering play Tuesday, but Flores exploded along with the rest of the Giants' offense. Flores singled and scored in the first and second innings before launching a solo shot off San Diego outfielder Wil Myers to push the score to its 13-2 final. He'll look to keep the momentum going as he sees additional playing time with infielders Tommy La Stella and Evan Longoria still on the shelf.
