  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Not starting Friday

Gurriel isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gurriel will get his first day off in nearly a month after he hit .316 with a homer, five runs and two RBI across the last five games. Aledmys Diaz will start at first base and bat seventh.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: On bench for third straight

Voit is not starting Friday against the Mets.

The slugger was absent from the starting nine in the previous two games, and now it becomes even harder to work him into the lineup without a DH in the NL park. Nonetheless, he has a strong chance to appear in the game off the bench and could draw a start at first base later in the series.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Sitting Friday

Vaughn is not starting Friday against the Red Sox.

Vaughn failed to record a hit or walk in 13 at-bats during the series in Oakland, so it's not surprising to see him take a seat for Friday's series opener. Eloy Jimenez (knee) returns to the lineup as the DH as Gavin Sheets draws the start in left field.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Giants' Donovan Solano: Nearing rehab assignment

Solano (illness) is expected to begin a rehab assignment over the weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Solano has been out since testing positive for COVID-19 in late August. Previous reports indicated he could return to the active roster by the end of the weekend, but it looks as though the Giants would rather see him get into a few minor-league games first. Given that he's only been out for just over two weeks, he shouldn't need a lengthy rehab assignment, meaning he should be back on the active roster sometime early next week.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Mashes pinch-hit homer

Voit hit a solo home run in his only at-bat during Thursday's 6-4 loss to Toronto.

The 30-year-old pinch hit for Tyler Wade in the ninth inning and went back-to-back with Gary Sanchez, but that only got the Yankees back within two runs. Voit hadn't hit a homer since Aug. 27, although he's received just 26 at-bats across 11 games in that time. Playing time will likely be hard to come by for Voit despite his solid .253/.333/.442 slash line in 213 plate appearances. With Anthony Rizzo manning first base and Giancarlo Stanton alternating between right field and designated hitter frequently, Voit's been limited to a part-time role in the lineup.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Swats game-tying homer

Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Toronto.

The first baseman tied the game at 2-2 with his sixth-inning blast off Toronto starter Jose Berrios, but the score didn't stay even for long. Rizzo has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games, going 17-for-52 (.327) in that span. The recent surge has lifted his season slash line to .252/.345/.447 with 19 homers, 56 RBI, 60 runs scored and six stolen bases across 493 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: One homer back of Ohtani

Guerrero went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Yankees.

The 22-year-old slugger provided some necessary insurance with his ninth-inning blast. Guerrero is up to 42 homers this season, just one back of Shohei Ohtani for the major-league lead. Through 599 plate appearances, Guerrero has added a .319/.409/.607 slash line with 100 RBI, 107 runs scored and four stolen bases. He is one of three players in American League history to record 40 homers and 100 RBI before age 23, joining Joe DiMaggio and Juan Gonzalez in that exclusive club.

  • Kevin Padlo 1B | LAD

Mariners' Kevin Padlo: Rejoining big club

Padlo was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

Padlo was sent back to Tacoma on Saturday, but he'll now rejoin the big-league roster with Tyler Anderson moving to the bereavement list. Padlo has recorded a double in 13 major-league at-bats this season, and he should continue serving as a reserve infielder for the weekend series against Arizona.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Still not starting

Voit isn't starting Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

The 30-year-old will be out of the lineup for the fourth time in the last six games since Giancarlo Stanton will serve as the designated hitter. Voit has gone 1-for-14 with a run, a walk and six strikeouts across his last six appearances.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Third straight two-hit game

Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Angels.

Cronenworth churned out his third straight two-hit game to close out the series, raising his season average to .271. He's been one of the few quality performers in the second half for the struggling Padres, who hold a narrow one-game lead over the Reds for the National League's second wild-card spot heading into play Thursday.
