  • Jonathan Arauz 3B | LAD

Mets' Jonathan Arauz: Summoned from Triple-A

Arauz was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. He'll start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Cubs.

Arauz had been optioned to Syracuse on Friday, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the Mets for their series with the Cubs after outfielder Starling Marte (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old has logged just six plate appearances in the big leagues this season but could see more involvement during his upcoming stint with the Mets as the organization looks to evaluate some lesser-established players late in the 2023 campaign.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

Mets' Danny Mendick: Gets start at third

Mendick will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Cubs.

With Brett Baty optioned to Triple-A on Monday and Luis Guillorme still on the injured list, Mendick will find more playing time. The 29-year-old has been great against left-handed pitching, slashing .360/.385/.560 in 26 plate appearances. He will face Cubs' left hander Drew Smyly. Mark Vientos should start at third base against righties while getting nods at designated hitter against southpaws.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Gets rare day off

Arraez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Arraez hit .356 over his last 20 games and is riding a seven-game hitting streak, but he also has not rested since the All-Star break, and manager Skip Schumaker decided it was time for a day off. Jon Berti will man the keystone in Arraez's place.

  • Jake Alu LF | WAS

Nationals' Jake Alu: On bench Monday

Alu is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

The trade of Jeimer Candelario and the demotion of Luis Garcia to Triple-A Rochester last week have opened up two spots in the Washington infield, and Alu seems to have a hold on one of those everyday roles. He started in four of the previous five games, going 5-for-14 with a double, five RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. He'll cede his spot to Michael Chavis on Monday, but look for Alu to get the bulk of the starts at the keystone while he's wielding a hot bat.

  • Amed Rosario SS | NYY

Dodgers' Amed Rosario: Out of lineup Monday

Rosario is out of the lineup for Monday's afternoon game against the Padres.

Rosario went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-2 victory over San Diego and started each of Los Angeles' first six games in August, going 5-for-22 with two homers, eight RBI, three runs and one stolen base over that span. He's logged time at both second base and shortstop since coming over from Cleveland in a July 26 trade but will begin Monday on the bench against Padres righty Seth Lugo. The Dodgers are starting Mookie Betts at second and Miguel Rojas at shortstop in the finale of the four-game series.

  • Jake Alu LF | WAS

Nationals' Jake Alu: On base three times Sunday

Alu went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Reds.

The 26-year-old has started four of five games since his latest promotion -- two at third base and two at second -- and gone 5-for-14 with a double, two runs, five RBI and two steals. The starting jobs at both infield spots are up for grabs on the rebuilding Nats, so if Alu keeps producing, it could only be a matter of the coaching staff deciding where it likes him better defensively before he settles into an everyday role. He would seem to have little left to prove in the minors -- through 133 games at Triple-A Rochester the last two years, he's slashed .308/.365/.481 with 16 homers and 22 steals.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Heads back to minors

The Pirates optioned Gonzales to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Gonzales lost his spot on the 26-man active roster when the Pirates needed to make room for first baseman Alfonso Rivas, whom the team acquired from the Padres on Tuesday. Before the demotion to Triple-A, Gonzales had already seemingly lost hold of a regular role in the middle infield, as Liover Peguero and Alika Williams emerged as the Bucs' primary options at second base and shortstop, respectively. Gonzales turned in a .216/.268/.353 with two home runs and no stolen bases over 112 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in his first stint in the big leagues.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Racks up three hits in loss

Albies went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs.

He's hit safely in all five of his games in August, going 8-for-22 (.364) in that span. Albies has tallied five extra-base hits in that span. The second baseman continues to hit well in the top half of Atlanta's order -- he's sporting a .261/.321/.508 slash line with 25 home runs, 77 RBI, 67 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 109 contests this season.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Registers steal Sunday

Hoerner went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 6-4 win over Atlanta.

While Hoerner was held hitless for the second game in a row, he was able to pick up his sixth steal in his last 14 games. In that span, he's batting .300 (18-for-60) with eight extra-base hits. The infielder is up to 27 steals in 30 attempts this year while slashing .272/.329/.394 with eight home runs, 58 RBI and 67 runs scored across 103 contests.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Dealing with quad tightness

Marte was lifted from Sunday's game against the Twins with left quadricep tightness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

The 29-year-old went 0-for-3 before being replaced by Geraldo Perdomo during the bottom of the fifth inning. Marte will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery prior to Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers.
