  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Sees game action

Rojas (oblique) played five innings of a game at extended spring training Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Rojas had been taking batting practice and doing fielding drills, but Tuesday's activity was his first game action while recovering from injury. He's scheduled to take Wednesday off before returning to action Thursday. Rojas was seemingly headed for an everyday role at third base when the oblique injury cropped up during spring training. Since then, shortstop Nick Ahmed returned from a shoulder injury and shortstop prospect Geraldo Perdomo has been eased in to third base. If Perdomo remains in the majors to play the hot corner, Rojas could revert to the utility infield role he filled when he first came up in 2019. The Diamondbacks do not plan to use him in the outfield, a nod to the defensive lapses made by several players that have been asked to defend positions at which they are less familiar.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Doubles in return

India (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

There wasn't much to write home about in India's return from the injured list, but he did show the hamstring is fine by legging out a double against Joe Musgrove in the fifth inning. India has resumed tablesetting duties for an underperforming Reds offense.

  • Isan Diaz 2B | DET

Marlins' Isan Diaz: Returns from IL

Triple-A Jacksonville activated Diaz (undisclosed) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Diaz, who was outrighted to Jacksonville on March 29 after clearing waivers, made his debut for the affiliate a week later but has since been sidelined for the past two and a half weeks. After he made a pair of rehab appearances at Single-A Jupiter, Diaz looks prepared to reclaim an everyday role for Jacksonville.

  • Reds' Brandon Drury: On bench for second straight game

Drury is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

With Jake Fraley (knee) back in the lineup as the Reds' designated hitter after he was on the bench for the past five games, Drury doesn't look as though he'll see regular at-bats against right-handed pitching moving forward. He could still serve as a short-side platoon mate at DH for either Fraley or Tyler Naquin, both of whom are left-handed hitters.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Remains in lineup versus lefty

Kim will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Kim will stick in the starting nine for the seventh time in eight games, but he's mostly been the beneficiary of the Padres opposing a heavy slate of left-handed pitching. With southpaw Reiver Sanmartin on the mound for Cincinnati in the series opener, the righty-hitting Kim will get the nod at shortstop once again over the lefty-hitting CJ Abrams, who still appears to have a hold on the larger side of a platoon at the position. Kim hasn't done much to take advantage of the uptick in playing time, as he's slashed .158/.273/.316 over his last six starts.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Back in action Tuesday

The Reds activated India (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He'll start at second base and bat leadoff in the Reds' series opener against the Padres, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

Cincinnati optioned infielder Alejo Lopez to Triple-A Louisville to clear room on the 28-man active roster for India, who spent the minimum amount of time on the shelf with a strained right hamstring. After getting the green light to play Tuesday, India will slot back into his usual spot atop the order, resulting in Tyler Naquin sliding down to the two hole.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Two doubles in Monday's win

McNeil went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

Getting the start at second base and hitting eighth, McNeil crossed the plate with the go-ahead run as part of the Mets' rally in the top of the ninth. The 30-year-old appears to have put his shaky 2021 performance behind him, slashing .316/.381/.474 through 16 games with one homer, one steal, seven RBI and 10 runs.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Struggles continue

Rodgers went 0-for-2 with a walk in Monday's loss to the Phillies.

Rodgers was back in the lineup after being replaced by Alan Trejo for the last two games. The time off didn't make a tangible difference in his results however, as Rodgers is now hitless in his last 16 at-bats. If there is a positive angle to take, it's that Rodgers did not strike out, which marks only the third third time in 13 starts that he has not been punched out at least once this season. Trejo doesn't appear to be a long-term threat to Rodgers' playing time, though the eventual return of Garrett Hampson (hand) will put pressure on him to perform.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Optioned to Triple-A

Stott was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

Stott earned an Opening Day roster spot following an impressive spring, but he failed to do enough to stick around. He hit .133/.161/.167 with a 32.3 percent strikeout rate in 31 trips to the plate and had fallen from favor to the point that he hadn't appeared in a game since last Tuesday. He'll get regular at-bats at the Triple-A level while awaiting his next chance in the majors, with Johan Camargo emerging as manager Joe Girardi's preferred utility infielder.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Earns first career call-up

Donovan was called up for the first time by the Cardinals on Monday.

Donovan, a seventh-round pick in the 2018 draft, doesn't come with tons of prospect pedigree, but he's hit well throughout his minor-league career. In 242 games as a professional, he's hit .285/.386/.429 with 21 homers and 23 steals. He's started at every position except catcher and center field, making him a good candidate for a bench role. Lars Nootbaar was optioned to Triple-A Memphis to clear a roster spot.
