Merriefield went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run, a double and an additional run scored during Tuesday's win over Cleveland.

The 31-year-old entered Tuesday 2-for-34 over his previous eight contests, but he broke out with the third-inning, three-run homer of Jakob Junis. Merrifield has a .253/.303/.443 slash line with eight homers, nine doubles, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases in 43 games this season.

McNeil went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run Tuesday against the Orioles.

McNeil homered in his third consecutive game, accounting for each of his long balls this season. This time, he took Asher Wojciechowski deep in the eighth inning. Overall, McNeil is hitting .306/.378/.468 across 143 plate appearances.

Semien is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Astros.

The 29-year-old returned from a four-game absence to start Tuesday's matinee, and he went 0-for-4 in the contest. It's not a major surprise to see the A's easing Semien back into action and not having him start both ends of the twin bill. Vimael Machin will take over at shortstop for the nightcap.

Chavis is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Chavis started in left field for the matinee, going 0-for-4 with one strikeout. Jose Peraza will start in left field for the nightcap, with Jonathan Arauz starting at the keystone.

Barreto was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation, retroactive to Monday.

Barreto hurt his shoulder while sliding into second base Sunday, and he'll head to the injured list so the Angels can bring up depth at second base with Luis Rengifo (thumb) day-to-day. It's unclear whether he'll spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the injured list. Rengifo should see the bulk of playing time at second base when he's healthy, but Matt Thaiss was recalled from alternate camp and will start at second base Tuesday.

Arraez isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Arraez was removed From Tuesday's matinee as part of a double switch, but he went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI prior to his exit. He'll get some extra rest during the nightcap with Marwin Gonzalez starting at second base.

Polanco isn't starting the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Polanco will take a seat after hitting a single and crossing the plate once during Game 1. Ehire Adrianza will take over at shortstop.

Mathias was optioned to the Brewers' alternate training site Tuesday.

Mathias has bounced on and off of the active roster this season, hitting .278/.278/.361 through his first 36 major-league plate appearances. His absence will clear a roster spot for Corey Knebel (hamstring) to return from the injured list.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday that Castro is dealing with some tightness in his right hamstring, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Castro was getting close to making his return from the injured list after dealing with a left hamstring strain, but he felt some tightness in his right hamstring recently that will keep him sidelined for several more days. The setback isn't believed to be serious, and Gardenhire said that Castro's getting close to being ready to return to game action.

Herrera was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Tuesday.

Herrera spent a week with the major-league club and went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts during that time. He reached base just once after he was hit by a pitch. The 26-year-old will now be cast off the 40-man roster, and it's unclear whether he'll find a spot with another organization given his lackluster results in the big leagues.
