  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Rehab assignment undetermined

The Cardinals will decide this weekend whether Gorman (hamstring) will go out on a rehab assignment before returning to the active roster, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Out since early April with a mild right hamstring strain, Gorman has been participating in batting practice and other baseball activities. It's not clear whether he has tested out the hamstring with running yet. It seems the team prefers for Gorman to get in some rehab at-bats before being activated, but Masyn Winn's (back) expected unavailability for a few days could alter its thinking.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Begins baseball activity

Marte (hamstring) began taking groundballs and swings in a batting cage Friday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

As Marte begins baseball activities, his timeline has become more clear. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo estimated a return for the final week of April or the first week of May. That provides much more definition than the "series of weeks" comment Lovullo offered up earlier this week. While Marte works his way back, Tim Tawa and Garrett Hampson will share second base.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Collects three RBI in blowout

Arias went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run during Friday's 7-0 win over the Royals.

Arias' second-inning single snapped his four-game hitless streak, and his three-run blast in the fourth ended up being the only offense the Guardians would need to emerge victorious Friday, though they still tacked on four more insurance runs in the eighth frame. The 25-year-old's three-hit performance elevated his OPS from .589 to .754, and he is now just one home run shy of his 2024 total despite having taken 114 fewer at-bats.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: On base three times in return

Torres went 2-for-4 with a walk in Friday's 7-6 win over the Twins.

Torres returned from a stint on the 10-day injured list due to an oblique strain. He picked up where he left off in his third game of the season, logging his second multi-hit effort. He's 5-for-11 with a home run, one RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base so far. Torres looks set to be at or near the top of the order most of the time, as long as his bat stays hot enough to justify that role.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Hits first homer since Opening Day

Albies went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Friday's 6-3 loss to Tampa Bay.

Albies hadn't recorded a home run since Opening Day, but he took Edwin Uceta deep to right field for a 342-foot solo homer. Albies has recorded a hit in six of his last seven outings, and over that span he has gone 8-for-31 with five runs, two doubles, one home run and three RBI.

  • Nick Yorke 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Yorke: Reinstated off IL

Yorke (shoulder) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

Yorke was placed on the injured list April 6 due to right shoulder soreness, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to return after the minimum. In the four games prior to his injury, Yorke went 5-for-15 with two walks, three doubles and one RBI.

  • Tim Tawa 2B | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Resting Friday

Tawa isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.

Tawa will head to the bench for Friday's series opener after going 1-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's win over Baltimore. Garrett Hampson will start at second base and bat ninth.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Sitting against lefty

Baty isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

The lefty-hitting Baty will grab a seat on the bench to start Friday's contest while the lefty-throwing JP Sears takes the mound for the A's. Luisangel Acuna will fill in at second base and bat seventh.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Lands on injured list

The Padres placed Cronenworth on the 10-day injured list Friday with a non-displaced right rib fracture.

Cronenworth was taken out of Tuesday's game against the A's due to what was initially believed to be cramping. However, imaging revealed that the 31-year-old infielder actually has a fractured rib, which stems from when he was hit by a pitch in Sunday's contest. It's unclear how long he will be out, though he could return relatively quickly, considering he was able to start another two games after getting plunked. Jose Iglesias will presumably take over as San Diego's primary second baseman while Cronenworth is out, and Tyler Wade will come up from Triple-A to replenish the big club's infield depth.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Activated from IL, batting leadoff

The Tigers activated Torres (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and he is batting leadoff Friday against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Torres has been sidelined since March 28 but is back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against David Festa. With Torres returning, Colt Keith moves to designated hitter, batting fifth. Riley Greene is in center field and both Ryan Kreidler and Justyn-Henry Malloy will come off the bench. Torres is 3-for-7 at the plate on the young season.
