Tommy Edman 2B | LAD
Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Still shut down from most activity
Edman (wrist) said Thursday that while he got "generally good news" from his MRI on Wednesday, he remains shut down from most baseball activities, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Edman will have another exam on his right wrist Monday, and he could be cleared to begin ramping back up next week if he receives a positive report. The 28-year-old is now six months removed from what was supposed to be a relatively minor surgery, but he has been unable to get over the hump in his recovery.

Jose Altuve 2B | HOU
Astros' Jose Altuve: Finding power early
Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Altuve concluded an offensive barrage by the Astros, as his solo home run in the seventh inning put the team up 8-0. He now has three homers on the season, all of which have come in his last four games. Altuve has also begun the new campaign with a seven-game hitting streak, including three multi-hit performances.

Jose Caballero 2B | NYY
Rays' Jose Caballero: Piling up stolen bases
Caballero went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Wednesday against the Rangers.
Caballero has been in the lineup for six of the Rays' first seven games, hitting between sixth and ninth in the order. He's still found ways to be productive, as he's reached base eight times across 22 plate appearances with six combined RBI and runs scored. Most intriguing has been his aggressiveness on the basepaths, as Caballero now has three stolen bases on the season while being caught once.

Reds' Santiago Espinal: Fills in at third base
Espinal entered Wednesday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia after third baseman Jeimer Candelario (elbow) was removed from the game.
Candelario felt elbow soreness during an eighth-inning at-bat and was replaced in the field by Espinal for the final inning. Candelario told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he was feeling better following the game. He'll be checked out before Friday's game against the Mets, and pending that evaluation, Espinal could start at third base.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Fills in at shortstop
Marte started at designated hitter and went 2-for-5 with a double and solo home run in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Yankees.
Marte popped his first home run of the season in the fifth inning, knotting the game 2-2 and setting up the extra frames. He eventually moved to shortstop for the 11th inning after Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was removed. Marte came up through the system as a shortstop, which is where he played early in his career, but has since evolved into a second baseman following a brief stint in center field. If Perdomo misses game action, the Diamondbacks are expected to cover his absence with a combination of Blaze Alexander and Jace Peterson.

Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Swipes bag, notches two hits
Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Cardinals.
Bogaerts is looking to work his way out of a bit of a slump, having gone hitless in four of his previous five games entering Wednesday and going 2-for-18 (.111) in that stretch. Even with the mini cold spell, Bogaerts owns a solid .286 average in 2024 after logging two hits in each of his first three games. Bogaerts also got on the board in the steal column Wednesday, lending some hope to the idea that the now-second baseman could repeat his career-high 19 steals from a season ago.

Brendan Donovan 2B | SEA
Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Exits game after HBP
Donovan was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Padres after getting hit by a pitch, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Donovan became the fourth Cardinal to get hit by a pitch Wednesday when he took a 95-mph sinker off his elbow during the top of the eighth inning -- his second HBP of the game. He remained in to run the bases but was replaced in left field by Mike Siani before the bottom half of the frame. The severity of Donovan's injury is unknown, but getting hit by two pitches may prompt a day off Thursday versus Miami at the very least.

Gavin Lux SS | TB
Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Resting against southpaw
Lux isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Wednesday's game against San Francisco.
The Giants will send out lefty Kyle Harrison to start Wednesday's contest, meaning the left-handed bat of Lux will retreat to the bench. Mookie Betts will shift to second base while Lux sits, allowing Miguel Rojas to start at shortstop and bat ninth.

Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Aiming to return Saturday
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that he's hopeful Lowe (oblique) will be ready to return to the lineup Saturday in Colorado, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Lowe exited Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Rangers due to left side tightness, but Cash said the second baseman wanted to remain in the game. The manager hopes that the team's off day Thursday combined with a left-hander starting for the Rockies on Friday will allow Lowe sufficient rest before he can return to action Saturday. Side injuries can be tricky, though, so an eventual stint on the injured list can't be ruled out.

Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL
Angels' Luis Rengifo: Removed with lightheadedness
Rengifo was lifted from Wednesday's game in Miami after feeling lightheaded.
Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a run scored at the plate before exiting. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. Nolan Schanuel entered the game in Rengifo's place, with Miguel Sano shifting from first to third base.
