Jordan Westburg 2B | BAL
Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Batting cleanup in return
Westburg (elbow) will start at third base and bat cleanup in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Westburg was removed from Tuesday's spring game against the Blue Jays after he was struck on the left elbow by a pitch, but he avoided any structural damage and needed just one day off for the pain and soreness to subside. The 25-year-old is expected to begin the season as the Orioles' primary third baseman, though an early slump could result in him losing work to utility players Ramon Urias and Jorge Mateo.

Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL
Angels' Luis Rengifo: Doing some baseball activities
Rengifo (hamstring) will go through some baseball activities Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Rengifo aggravated his left hamstring injury during Tuesday's game but is feeling much better than when he first was hurt in late February. His readiness for Opening Day remains in question, but the Angels aren't ruling it out. Rengifo is in line for a super utility role this season.

David Bote 2B | LAD
Cubs' David Bote: Sent to minor-league camp
The Cubs reassigned Bote to minor-league camp Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Bote slugged five home runs during Cactus League play, but he came into camp with little chance at a roster spot. The 30-year-old spent all of the 2023 season at Triple-A Iowa and will head back there to start 2024. Bote is in the final season of a five-year, $15 million extension he signed with the Cubs in April 2019, but he hasn't seen any big-league action since 2022 after being moved off the 40-man roster.

Jonathan India 2B | KC
Reds' Jonathan India: Still in utility role
India started in left field and went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's spring game against Texas.
India, who was Cincinnati's primary starter at second base last season, continues to move around the diamond as planned. He could return to second base at some point, because the Reds announced Monday that their planned starter at the position, Matt McLain, will open the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury. McLain plans to get a second opinion, and there's uncertainty as to how long he'll be unavailable. For now, it looks like manager David Bell will continue giving India work all over the field, but that could change depending on McLain's prognosis. Since the club announced the injury, Spencer Steer started at second in three consecutive spring games, and the Reds acquired Santiago Espinal from the Blue Jays.

Reds' Santiago Espinal: Shipped to Cincinnati
The Blue Jays traded Espinal to the Reds on Wednesday in exchange for Chris McElvain.
With Matt McLain (shoulder) set to miss the opening portion of the season and Noelvi Marte suspended 80 games, the Reds will bring in Espinal to give their infield a bit more depth heading into Opening Day. Espinal slashed .248/.310/.335 across 254 plate appearances last season with the Blue Jays, and he will likely serve as the main backup to Jonathan India at second base in Cincinnati. His versatility may net him a few starts across the infield.

Michael Massey 2B | KC
Royals' Michael Massey: Remains day-to-day
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Wednesday that Massey (back) had scans come back fine and is considered day-to-day, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
The 25-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's Cactus League lineup due to back tightness, and it appears the scans confirm that initial diagnosis. Massey is receiving treatment and doing some conditioning Wednesday, and it seems like he could be back on the field within the next few days.

Michael Stefanic 2B | TOR
Angels' Michael Stefanic: Shut down following MRI
Stefanic has been shut down from baseball activities after an MRI on his left quad came back worse than expected, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Stefanic had an MRI after still feeling discomfort in the quad during a running drill and the test revealed the bad news. It's not clear how long this might set the infielder back, but a stint on the injured list to begin the season seems assured.

Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL
Angels' Luis Rengifo: Hamstring improved
Rengifo said Wednesday that his left hamstring feels "way better" than it did when he was forced to leave Tuesday's Cactus League game, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Rengifo also hurt the same hamstring back on Feb. 26 but contends that the injury isn't as serious this time around. It's not clear when he might be ready to play in a game again, however, and his readiness for Opening Day certainly still seems to be very much up in the air.

David Villar 1B | SF
Giants' David Villar: Shifting to minor-league camp
The Giants optioned Villar to minor-league camp Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Villar was never a likely bet to make San Francisco's Opening Day roster, though he had a strong showing during spring training with three homers and a 1.093 OPS in 44 plate appearances. The 27-year-old had an .869 OPS at the Triple-A level last season but also struck out at a 26.6 percent clip, and he'll likely need to show improved contact skills to having any staying power in the majors.

Tucupita Marcano 2B | SD
Padres' Tucupita Marcano: Lands on 10-day IL
The Padres placed Marcano (knee) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Marcano will officially sit out the first portion of the season as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL in his right knee. The 24-year-old infielder will likely embark on an extended minor-league rehab assignment once he's cleared for game action, but Marcano's placement on the 10-day IL rather than the 60-day list leaves room for a potential early season return.
