  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Reaches base multiple times

Moncada went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a walk Monday against the Tigers.

It wasn't a particularly notable line, but Moncada's performance marked only the fourth time he's reached base multiple times in a game this season. Though he's appeared in only 26 contests to this point, Moncada is still hitting just .137/.188/.211 on the campaign. Moncada has slowly started to lose playing time to Jake Burger, and he will come under even more pressure once Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) is able to return.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Leaves after HBP

Burger was removed from Monday's game against Tigers after being struck on the hand by a pitch, and he's been diagnosed with a bruise after X-rays came back negative, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Burger was able to finish the at-bat after it was determined he swung at the pitch he was hit by, but he was removed shortly after. He was quickly diagnosed with a bruised right hand after being sent for X-rays and will be considered day-to-day moving forward.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Takes batting practice

Chapman (wrist) took part in batting practice Monday and is expected to return to the starting lineup Tuesday against Baltimore, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Mitchell noted that Chapman looked strong during his session of batting practice, and he also stated that the third baseman will likely be available to pinch hit Monday evening if called upon. Confirmation of Chapman's return to the starting nine should come closer to first pitch Tuesday.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

    Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Suspension upheld

Donaldson's appeal of his one-game suspension was denied Monday, so he'll serve the ban Tuesday against Tampa Bay, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Donaldson's suspension was issued after he made inappropriate comments to the White Sox's Tim Anderson back on May 21. It took several weeks for his appeal to be resolved, with the third baseman hitting both the COVID-19 injured list and the regular 10-day injured list in the intervening time. Expect DJ LeMahieu to handle third base Tuesday, but Donaldson should return to the lineup for Wednesday's contest.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Remains out of lineup

Chapman (wrist) isn't starting Monday against the Orioles.

Chapman will be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game due to wrist soreness. However, he said Sunday that he hoped to return to the lineup Monday or Tuesday, so he should remain day-to-day for now. Santiago Espinal is shifting to the hot corner while Cavan Biggio starts at second base once again.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Reaches base twice

Burger went 1-for-5 with a walk and an RBI on Sunday against the Rangers.

Burger suffered an apparent leg injury Thursday, but he was in the lineup of Chicago's three games against the Rangers over the weekend. He delivered five hits across 14 at-bats and is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, during which he's hitting .433 with four home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. Gavin Sheets was recently demoted, which signals that Burger should have a clear path to everyday playing time at either third base or designated hitter moving forward.

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Athletics' Jonah Bride: Bound for big leagues

The Athletics plan to call up Bride from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Boston, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.

Since the Athletics have off Monday, Bride's promotion likely won't be made official until Tuesday. Bride is nominally a catcher, having converted to the position in the fall of last year, though he may see much of his time at the big-league level at the infield corners. He's swung a hot bat across the two highest levels of the minors over the last two seasons, hitting .291/.418/.474 with just one more strikeout than walk, though he's managed just a modest 14 home runs in 111 games. Only one of those 14 long balls have come at the Triple-A level.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Reaches base three times

Bregman went 2-for4 with a double and a walk Sunday against the Marlins.

Bregman collected a two-out double in the eighth inning but was ultimately stranded in scoring position. He's quietly collected at least one hit in seven of his last eight starts, though he has just four runs scored with no RBI in that span. Bregman has a strong .340 on-base percentage but has otherwise delivered an underwhelming .225 batting average and .382 slugging percentage across 244 plate appearances on the season.

  • Zack Gelof 3B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Recovering from torn labrum

Gelof hasn't played for Double-A Midland since May 26 while recovering from a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.

Gelof suffered the injury in question after landing awkwardly while diving at a groundball. Since the labrum tear is in his non-throwing shoulder, Gelof will avoid what likely would have been a season-ending surgery, but the 22-year-old third baseman should still be viewed as out indefinitely. Before getting hurt, Gelof produced a .315/.372/.458 slash line with four home runs and eight stolen bases across his 183 plate appearances with Midland.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Goes other way for win

Devers went 1-for-3 with two-run home run in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Mariners.

Devers got a chance when reliever Paul Sewald plunked Rob Refsnyder with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Devers reached out for the reliever's pitch, several inches out of the strike zone, and went the other way for his second home run in as many games. It's been all peaks and no valleys for Devers in 2022; the third baseman ranks seventh in OPS (.978), third in average (.335) and leads the universe in hits (83).
