Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Out two or three weeks

LeMahieu is expected to miss two or three weeks with his sprained left thumb, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

LeMahieu dealt with a similar injury back in 2018 and wound up being out for a similar time frame. The given timetable should see him back in action sometime right around the start of September. Tyler Wade will be the second baseman in his absence Monday against Boston.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Takes breather Monday

Urshela isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Urshela tallied hits and scored in each of the first three games of the team's series against Boston, but he'll take a seat for the final game Monday. Thairo Estrada will draw the start at the hot corner.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Tigers' Isaac Paredes: Gets first big-league callup

The Tigers selected Paredes' contract from their alternate training site Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Detroit called up three of their top prospects Monday, with starting pitchers Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize also making the jump from the alternate site. Skubal is slated to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox while Mize is scheduled to pitch Wednesday, so Paredes should be the first of the trio to debut, as general manager Al Avila said he expects the 21-year-old to be included in the lineup for Monday's series opener, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Paredes is expected to see most of his action at third base or shortstop, where Willi Castro and Niko Goodrum, respectively, have been serving as Detroit's top options. Since Goodrum is day-to-day with a back injury, Castro could temporarily slide over to shortstop to open up reps at the hot corner for Paredes, who slashed .282/.368/.416 with 13 home runs, five stolen bases and a 57:61 BB:K over 552 plate appearances at Double-A Erie last season.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Fills in at DH

Toro was added to Sunday's lineup as the designated hitter after Yordan Alvarez (knee) was scratched. He went 0-for-3 with a run scored in a 3-2 win over the Mariners.

Toro has been an infrequent contributor for the Astros and would likely share the DH role with others if Alvarez misses significant time. Houston manager Dusty Baker was hopeful Alvarez can return to the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Richard Justice of MLB.com reports. Toro is slashing .148/.258/.296 over 31 plate appearances.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Cranks three-run homer

Moncada went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Cardinals.

Moncada was part of a home-run barrage in the fifth inning, as he began a stretch of four consecutive long balls for the White Sox. He missed one game with general soreness on Wednesday but appears to be back on track after hitting his fourth home run of the season. Overall, Moncada is hitting .259/.326/.457 in 89 plate appearances to go along with nine runs scored and 11 RBI.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Back to mashing Sunday

Rendon went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Dodgers.

For the fifth time in six games, Rendon put a ball in the seats, this time taking Dodgers starter Dustin May deep in the fourth inning. In 18 games this year, Rendon has six homers, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored and a .203 batting average. He's hit safely in the last six games, going 8-for-20 (.400) with six walks in that span.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Indians' Jose Ramirez: Blasts fifth homer

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a solo homer, walk, two runs scored and two RBI in Sunday's 8-5 win over the Tigers.

Ramirez's day was highlighted by a long ball off Tyler Alexander that gave Cleveland a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning. The switch hitter collected another RBI when he drove in Delino DeShields with a grounder to second base in his next at-bat. Ramirez now has five homers and 18 RBI on the campaign and will carry a line of .277/.371/.542 into Tuesday's game against the Pirates.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Getting second opinion on injury

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that LeMahieu will meet with a hand specialist Monday to receive a second opinion on his sprained left thumb, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Based on what the specialist has to say about the injury, LeMahieu will decide whether or not to undergo surgery on the thumb. If a procedure is deemed necessary, LeMahieu's absence could stretch into mid-September or longer, making him a drop candidate in most redraft leagues. Until the Yankees are able to provide a clearer timeline for LeMahieu's potential return, fantasy managers are probably best suited stashing him on their bench or in an IL spot.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Moves to IL

The Yankees placed LeMahieu (thumb) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Manager Aaron Boone suggested after Saturday's 11-5 win over the Red Sox that the sprained left thumb LeMahieu picked up during the game could be an IL situation, so it's no real surprise that the Yankees deactivated him a day later. Miguel Andujar was recalled from the Yankees' alternate site in a corresponding move, and he could end up settling into a near-everyday role at third base if the Yankees elect to move Gleyber Torres or Gio Urshela over to LeMahieu's usual post at the keystone. In any case, LeMahieu becomes the third significant Yankees regular to head to the IL in the past week, with designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) and Aaron Judge (calf) getting shut down before him.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Ramping up activity

Madrigal (shoulder) is playing catch and taking groundballs, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Madrigal is hoping for a return this week and appears to be progressing toward that goal. With Leury Garcia (thumb) out until 2021, the second-base job should be Madrigal's once he's ready. Danny Mendick is handling the chores at the keystone until the rookie finishes his rehab.
