Madrigal's contract was purchased by the White Sox on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Madrigal wasn't deemed big-league ready on Opening Day but is considered ready to go just one week later, immediately after the White Sox secured an extra year of control on his contract. The 2018 fourth-overall pick has almost no power, homering just four times in 163 career minor-league games, but he's a remarkable contact hitter, posting a .309 batting average and a 3.0 percent strikeout rate as a professional. He's also stolen 43 bases in 62 attempts. He should get the chance to carve out an everyday role at second base, where Leury Garcia seems to be nothing more than a placeholder.

Devers is not in the lineup Thursday against the Mets, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Devers has started all six of Boston's games this season, going 5-for-25 with four doubles and five runs scored in those appearances. Jose Peraza is covering the hot corner in his place Thursday, with Jonathan Arauz getting the nod at second base.

White Sox director of player development Chris Getz said Thursday that Madrigal is "very close" to being ready to join the big club, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Madrigal was unable to crack Chicago's season-opening 30-man roster, but his inclusion on the team's taxi squad in Schaumburg suggests he's on the doorstep of his first MLB callup. The White Sox have thus far leaned on Leury Garcia as their primary second baseman, but he didn't enter the season with much job security and hasn't helped his case by getting off to a 4-for-22 (.182 average) start. Given that Wednesday marked the first day teams could call up prospects for their debuts while preserving an extra year of MLB service time, Madrigal's promotion could seemingly come any day now.

Chapman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run to account for the Athletics' only run in a loss to the Rockies on Wednesday.

Chapman's 391-foot shot to left field off German Marquez in the first inning continued an encouraging offensive trend for the third baseman, who'd started the year in a 1-for-12 slump over the first three games. Subsequent to that brief skid, Chapman has hit safely in three straight, and the good wood he's been putting on the ball has now led to two extra-base hits during that span.

LeMahieu went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBI in a victory over Baltimore on Wednesday.

LeMahieu showed no rust after the Yankees' two-day layoff, racking up four hits, including his first long ball of the campaign. The home run was a 358-foot shot to right field leading off the game. Through three games, LeMahieu is batting an even .500 (6-for-12).

Candelario went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Royals Wednesday and is hitless in 13 at-bats this season.

This wasn't the start Candelario was looking for, especially with Dawel Lugo, Harold Castro and Jordy Mercer all options to play at third base. The Tigers will likely show some patience with the 26-year-old, but Candelario could really use a hot streak to make sure he doesn't shift to more of a bench role moving forward.

Rendon went 1-for-3 with two walks, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 10-2 win over the Mariners.

Rendon hit the ground running in his Angels debut after missing the team's first four games due to an oblique injury. While he was lifted for a defensive replacement in the ninth inning and the Angels may sit Rendon here or there in the weeks ahead out of an abundance of caution, this performance suggests the oblique is not going to hinder his production to a significant extent.

Donaldson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a second RBI on a sacrifice fly in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Cardinals.

His first homer in a Minnesota uniform came in the fourth inning, when he chased Carlos Martinez from the game with an opposite-field shot. Donaldson came into the night with just one hit, a single, in 10 at-bats on the year, but the 34-year-old is more than capable of going on a tear at any time.

Rendon (oblique) is starting at third base and batting third Tuesday against the Mariners.

Manager Joe Maddon previously said he expected the 30-year-old to make his season debut Tuesday, and he's now confirmed to be in the starting nine. Rendon missed the first four games of the season with the oblique issue, but he's now set to take the field for the first time with the Angels after signing a massive $245 million contract in the offseason.

Devers went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Mets.

Devers' eighth-inning double was a positive sign after the third baseman had one hit and six strikeouts over his first 16 at-bats. In the field, Devers, who made a series of errors during intrasquad games, made his third error of the season and failed to handle a ball that was ruled a base hit.
