  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Remains out of Friday's lineup

Segura (forearm) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Segura will hit the bench for the second straight day as he continues to deal with an infection in his right forearm. The infection apparently stems from a small cut, and his availability for the rest of the series in Boston remains day-to-day for now.

  • Danny Valencia 3B | BAL

Orioles' Danny Valencia: Day off Thursday

Valencia is out of the lineup versus the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Valencia will take the night off following a multi-hit game Wednesday. Steve Wilkerson will get a start at the hot corner in his absence.

  • Twins' Eduardo Escobar: Dealing with elbow contusion

Escobar was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion after being removed from Thursday's game, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Escobar was taken out of Thursday's game after being struck with a pitch earlier in the contest. It sounds like he avoided any major damage, so Escobar should be considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's series opener against Texas.

  • Pedro Alvarez 3B | MIA

Orioles' Pedro Alvarez: Outrighted off 40-man roster

The Orioles outrighted Alvarez to Triple-A Norfolk.

As expected, none of the other 29 teams were willing to put in a waiver claim on Alvarez, a player with limited defensive value who only managed a .180/.283/.414 line across 127 plate appearances with the Orioles. He'll likely see steady at-bats as a designated hitter for Norfolk and post gaudy power production, but Alvarez has proven overmatched against major-league competition since joining the Baltimore organization in 2016.

  • Twins' Eduardo Escobar: Exits after taking pitch off elbow

Escobar exited Thursday's game against the Red Sox in the third inning, likely due to the fact he was hit by a pitch in the elbow earlier in the game, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Escobar took a pitch off his elbow in the first inning, and though he was able to stay in the game at first, the 29-year-old was ultimately removed prior to the fourth frame. Taylor Motter came in to play third base.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Dealing with minor infection

Segura is not in Thursday's lineup due to an infection in his right forearm, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The Mariners' trainers didn't want Segura on the field during Thursday's game since his forearm is fairly swollen from the infection that stemmed from a small cut. Segura is listed as day-to-day ahead of Friday's game against the Red Sox.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Takes seat Thursday

Segura is out of the lineup against the Yankees on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Segura will hit the bench for a rare day off after starting the past 21 games. Over that span, he's slashed .361/.402/.518 with two home runs, 10 RBI and two stolen bases. Andrew Romine will make a start at shortstop in his stead. Expect Segura back in the starting nine for Friday's series opener in Boston.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Extends hit streak

Bregman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Tampa Bay.

Bregman extended his hitting streak to six games, a stretch in which he's slugging .792 with three homers, two doubles, six runs scored and nine RBI. The Astros' offense has taken off in June, with Bregman a significant reason why they've scored 5.9 runs per game. In a month when the the team leads MLB in average (.301), OBP (.365) and OPS (.878), the third baseman has posted his best slash line (.286/.354/.629).

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Pops 11th homer Wednesday

Candelario went 2-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Reds.

It's his 11th homer of the year and third in June, but Candelario is only hitting .190 (12-for-63) through 18 games on the month despite the decent power numbers. The 24-year-old might continue to struggle with consistency in his second full season in the majors, but he remains a key piece of the Tigers' rebuild.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Gets breather Wednesday

Duffy is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy will get a well-deserved breather after starting the previous 18 games, slashing an impressive .333/.387/.536 with two homers over that stretch. Joey Wendle will cover third base in his stead, while Willy Adames starts at the keystone and Adeiny Hechavarria gets the nod at shortstop.
