  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Brewers' Josh Donaldson: Blasts homer in win

Donaldson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Cardinals.

Donaldson set the tone early with a first-inning blast, and that was all the Brewers would need for the win. He's gone 7-for-32 (.219) with two homers, seven RBI and four runs scored through nine games with Milwaukee since joining the big club Sept. 11. For the season, the veteran third baseman has a .159/.248/.442 slash line with 12 homers, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored and no stolen bases through 43 contests between the Brewers and Yankees.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Dealing with quad tightness

Burger left Wednesday's game against the Mets early due to right quad tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Burger was pulled after making an error on a throw home during the third inning. No details regarding the severity of Burger's injury were provided, but with an extra day between games for Miami, there's a chance Burger returns without missing any time.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Exits with injury

Burger was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mets with an apparent injury, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Burger had to be taken out of the game after making an error throwing to the plate in the third inning. The Marlins will take a look at him and should provide more details shortly, but Burger seemed to be grabbing at his quad as he left the field. He should be viewed as day-to-day for now.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Takes seat Wednesday

Arenado is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.

Juniel Querecuto will start at third base and bat eighth for the Cardinals after they were officially eliminated from postseason contention following Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. Arenado is slashing just .181/.233/.205 over his last 90 plate appearances dating back to Aug. 25.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Back in lineup Wednesday

Baty (groin) is back in the lineup Wednesday at Miami.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Returns to lineup

Machado (elbow) is in the designated hitter spot and batting fourth versus the Rockies on Wednesday in his return to action, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Machado has been out of the lineup a few times this month and has been limited to DH duty when he does play because of a nagging elbow issue which will likely require surgery eventually. He'll gut it out for this one, though.

Hayes is wrapping up a big second-half breakout, and since coming off the IL in early August, he's slashing .309/.349/.562 through 40 games with nine of his 14 homers on the season -- a power pace supported by his 93rd percentile average exit velocity, 89th percentile hard-hit rate and career-best 13.1 degree launch angle and 39 percent flyball rate in 2023.
