  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Ending season strong

Hayes went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Marlins.

He's found a home batting leadoff, hitting first in the lineup exclusively in September. Hayes held a slash line of .308/.327/.365 entering Sunday's action. He's swiped three bags during that span. Although Hayes has collected only three extra-base hits (all doubles) in his last 71 at-bats, his batting average boost gives hope to fantasy managers for 2022.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sets new team rookie homer record

Wisdom went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

It was a game of highs and lows for Wisdom, as the 30-year-old struck out four times, but he also connected for his 27th home run of the season with two runners on in the eighth inning. In doing so, Wisdom set a new team rookie home-run record, surpassing the 26 long balls hit by Kris Bryant back in 2015. Considering Wisdom came into the year with four career home runs in 43 games at the MLB level, the power surge has been quite the pleasant surprise.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Advances to Triple-A

Castro will be promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis to close out the season, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Castro was sent to Double-A Altoona in late August, and he hit just .082 with a homer, six runs, five RBI and a stolen base across 18 minor-league games since then. He'll now face a higher level of competition in Indianapolis late in the year.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Delivers pair of homers

Segura went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Segura went deep off Carlos Carrasco in the first and third innings. It was his first multi-homer game this season. In his last 12 games, he has four long balls, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. The 31-year-old is slashing .299/.357/.453 with 14 home runs, 55 RBI, 74 runs and nine steals in 519 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Joins big-league squad

The Diamondbacks selected Vargas from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Vargas hasn't appeared at the MLB level since June 18, at which point he had managed a .137/.200/.176 slash line in 55 plate appearances with the Cubs, Pirates and Diamondbacks. He figures to serve as additional infield depth for however long he's on the big-league roster.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Day off Sunday

Muncy is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

It appears to be a regular day off for Muncy, who's gone 0-for-7 with six strikeouts in his last two games. Albert Pujols is playing first base and batting cleanup for the series finale.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Not starting Saturday

Longoria is out of the lineup Saturday against Atlanta, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.

Longoria started the last three games and will receive a day off after going 3-for-12 with a home run, two doubles, a walk and two RBI. Kris Bryant will take over at the hot corner while Steven Dugger starts in the outfield.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Starting against lefty

McMahon will start at third base and hit sixth in Saturday's game against the Nationals.

McMahon draws the start even with a lefty on the mound, typically a spot for Colton Welker to pick up playing time at the hot corner. McMahon has hit well of late, collecting eight hits in his last 27 at-bats while homering twice, driving in four and scoring six runs.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Cubs' Matt Duffy: Swipes bag in loss

Duffy went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Brewers.

Duffy reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a wild pitch during a four-run fourth inning for the Cubs. He notched his lone base hit of the night in the eighth and stole second but was left stranded in scoring position. The 30-year-old has become an everyday player for the Cubs since the trade deadline passed and is slashing .294/.336/.405 with four homers, 12 RBI, 20 runs scored and 7:29 BB:K over 39 games since Aug. 1.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Heads to bench

Newman will not start Friday's game against the Marlins.

Newman's 0-for-3 effort Thursday against the Reds ended an eight-game hitting streak. He'll hit the bench Friday as Cole Tucker takes over at shortstop.
