  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Cracks homer in loss

Hayes went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Reds.

Hayes left the yard in the top of the fifth inning, collecting his second homer of the 2020 campaign. In his first taste of major-league action, he's batting .316 with five extra-base hits and five RBI over 11 contests.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Sitting for nightcap

Senzel is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Senzel returned from a month-long stay on the injured list for undisclosed reasons to start the afternoon contest, going 0-for-3 at the plate. It's no surprise to see that he won't be asked to start twice in one day immediately upon his return. Brian Goodwin will start in center field in his absence.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Returns to lineup Monday

Hayes will bat third and play third base against the Reds in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader.

He'll bat third in the lineup for the third straight time after primarily hitting seventh in his first week of action. Hayes has stood out defensively and batted better than anticipated. He has a slash line of .344/.400/.594 in his first 35 plate appearances. The rookie went 2-for-3 with a triple in his only game against starter Trevor Bauer.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: In midst of offensive skid

Newman will start at second base and will bat seventh in the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Reds.

After batting second in Sunday's 11-0 loss to the Royals, Newman will slide back down to a spot in the bottom third of the order. The low lineup placement may become the new normal for Newman, who has gone hitless in 14 at-bats over his last four starts to drop his season average to .222.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Activated from injured list

Senzel (undisclosed) returned from the injured list Monday and will serve as the 29th man for the day's doubleheader against Pittsburgh.

While Senzel is just the extra man for now, he'll presumably remain on the roster going forward, with another player getting optioned. He's been out for exactly a month for a reason that has never been explicitly stated, though his absence came at the same time that an undisclosed person in the Reds' organization tested positive for COVID-19. He should be the team's primary center fielder going forward and will look to build on his solid .244/.327/.489 slash line from his first 14 games of the season.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

    Marlins' Brian Anderson: Sitting Monday

Anderson is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Anderson is hitting a strong .386/.481/.500 in the month of September. He'll hit the bench for Monday's afternoon contest, with Miguel Rojas sliding to third base and Jazz Chisholm starting at shortstop.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Up to 13 homers

Suarez went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 10-5 win over the Cardinals.

Suarez had cooled off again after his three-homer game Sept. 5 -- 3-for-22 in his last six games entering play Sunday -- but got back on track in the finale against St. Louis. His OPS is now over .800, and he is tied with Manny Machado for fifth in the NL in homers with 13.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Posts fifth stolen base

Machado went 3-for-6 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored across both games of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Giants.

In the first game, Machado singled and stole second in the third inning before scoring on a Wil Myers single. That steal was Machado's fifth of the year. He added an RBI single in the fifth inning of the nightcap. The third baseman has accumulated 13 homers, 39 RBI and 38 runs scored in 48 contests this year.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Could return Monday

Manager David Bell said Senzel (undisclosed) could return from the injured list for Monday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

A return Monday would be exactly a month since the 25-year-old last played in a game, so he would likely only play one of the two games. The team never provided an official reason for Senzel's absence, though it occurred when the team was unable to play following a positive test result for COVID-19 within the organization.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Receives breather in series finale

Escobar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Escobar will receive a veteran's day off after starting in each of the previous five games and going a collective 5-for-21 with three doubles and an RBI. Josh VanMeter will spell Escobar at third base and bat second for the Diamondbacks.
