    Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Officially recalled

Hayes was recalled by the Pirates on Tuesday and will start against the Cubs.

Hayes will bat seventh in his major-league debut and he should take on an everyday role at third base going forward. The 23-year-old has stellar defensive abilities and slashed .265/.336/.415 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI with Triple-A Indianapolis last year.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Remains sidelined Tuesday

Davis (hip) isn't starting Tuesday against the Orioles.

Davis will be out of the lineup for a second straight game after he left Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader with a left hip injury. Luis Guillorme will start at third base.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Resumes workouts

Senzel (undisclosed) resumed workouts at the Reds' alternate training site Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Senzel wrote on Instagram on Monday that he's "one step closer to returning to the field," and his presence for workouts provides an explanation for the post. The Reds never gave an explanation for his placement on the injured list. Manager David Bell said that it should take some time before Senzel is ready to return to game action. Brian Goodwin should see an increased role while Senzel remains sidelined.

Reds' Nick Senzel: Making progress toward return

Senzel (undisclosed) wrote on Instagram on Monday that he's "one step closer to returning to the field," Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The Reds never offered a reason for why Senzel landed on the injured list in mid-August, though it's worth noting that the team was known to have a positive COVID-19 test right around that time and that the identity of the person who tested positive was never revealed. It looks as though Senzel should be ready to reclaim his role as the team's regular center fielder soon, though when exactly he'll be back in action remains unclear.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Drives in three runs

Segura went 1-for-4 with a three-run double in Monday's 8-6 win over Washington.

Segura cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 5-0 lead. He's collected 10 hits and eight RBI during his active six-game hitting streak.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Drives in three runs

Riley went 2-for-5 with a three-run triple in Monday's 6-3 win over Boston.

Riley slapped a three-run triple to give the Braves a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old is heating up, slashing .375/.419/.700 with three home runs and a palatable 23.3 percent strikeout rate over his last 40 at-bats.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Slugs eighth homer

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Cardinals.

The 29-year-old carried the Reds' offense as best he could, but his three-run blast in the ninth inning was too little, too late. Suarez has five homers and 12 RBI in his last 10 games, but on the year he's still hitting a woeful .185 with only eight home runs and 19 RBI through 34 contests.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Hits fifth homer

Anderson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Anderson entered Monday in a slump at the plate, striking out five times while failing to record a hit in his last 11 at-bats. Although he struck out twice more Monday, the third baseman belted a solo homer off Brad Brach to extend Miami's lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning. Anderson now has five long balls on the campaign and will look to improve upon a .222/.330/.424 slash line going forward.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: MLB debut set for Tuesday

Hayes will make his big-league debut Tuesday at home against the Cubs, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The Pirates will play Monday's road game in Milwaukee before making the move official. Hayes is one of the organization's top prospects and should be the everyday third baseman for the foreseeable future. He has solid plate skills and is a better runner than the average third baseman, but it is Hayes' Gold Glove-caliber defense that headlines his scouting report. It may be a year or two before he settles in as a quality big-league hitter, and the hope is that he can eventually tap into more over-the-fence power than he has shown in the minors.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Stuck in offensive rut

Anderson went 0-for-2 with a walk Sunday in the Marlins' 12-7 loss to the Rays.

The Marlins are riding a four-game losing streak heading into Monday's make-up game against the Mets, so it comes as little surprise that one of the key bats in their lineup in Anderson has slumped during that stretch. He's gone 0-for-11 with five strikeouts in the four games, dropping his season-long average to .221. Manager Don Mattingly seems content to let Anderson work through his August swoon, as the third baseman will be back in the lineup as the Marlins' cleanup hitter Monday while Miami takes aim at Mets ace Jacob deGrom, per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald.
