Angels' Anthony Rendon: Not starting Friday

Rendon is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rendon has a .749 OPS and three home runs through 22 games in May and will take a seat Friday for the second time in the past four contests. Tyler Wade will man the hot corner while Luis Rengifo is starting at second base.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Transferred to 10-day IL

Donaldson (illness) was transferred to the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Friday, retroactive to May 24.

Donaldson spent the last few days on the COVID-19 IL, but he continued to test negative for the virus despite exhibiting flu-like symptoms. However, he's also dealing with a shoulder injury that will force him to miss at least another week. Once the 36-year-old is deemed healthy enough to return, it's possible he'll be forced to miss at least one matchup since he's been issued a one-game suspension due to inappropriate comments he made to Tim Anderson last weekend. However, Donaldson is appealing the suspension. DJ LeMahieu (wrist) has missed the last four games, so Marwin Gonzalez has served as the starting third baseman recently.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Still not starting

LeMahieu (wrist) isn't starting Friday against Tampa Bay.

LeMahieu will be out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game as he continues to deal with left wrist discomfort. However, he took swings in the cage and will be available off the bench if needed, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Even if he doesn't appear in Friday's matchup, LeMahieu expects to return to the lineup Saturday. Gleyber Torres will start at second base while Marwin Gonzalez takes over at the hot corner Friday.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Not starting Friday

Walls isn't starting Friday against the Yankees, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Walls is in the midst of a slump in which he's hit just .033 with a run, a walk and 10 strikeouts over his last 10 games, and he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three matchups. Yandy Diaz will shift to third base while Harold Ramirez enters the lineup in right field.

  • Ryan Kreidler 3B | MIN

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Reinstated from injured list

Kreidler (hand) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Friday.

Kreidler has been sidelined since late April due to a fractured right hand that required surgery. However, he'll be back in action at Triple-A Toledo after missing just over a month. Prior to his absence, he slashed .246/.346/.462 with four homers, 12 RBI, six runs and four stolen bases over 18 games.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Four hits in blowout win

Senzel went 4-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's victory over the Cubs.

Senzel had four singles and two walks and came around to score three times. It was the center fielder's fourth multi-hit game of the season and his third career four-hit contest.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

Reds' Kyle Farmer: Two homers in blowout win

Farmer went 4-for-4 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's win over the Cubs.

The shortstop had missed the previous three games due to general soreness, but Farmer returned in a big way Thursday. He opened the scoring for the Reds with a two-run shot off Cubs starter Justin Steele in the second inning and added a solo blast in the fifth. He also extended Cincinnati's lead to 13-5 in the sixth with a two-run single. Coming into the game, Farmer had just one home run, 17 RBI and was batting .227, but he now has three homers, 22 RBI and is hitting .250.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: May land on IL

Muncy could be placed on the injured list due to ongoing pain in his arm, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Muncy suffered a partially torn UCL in the final days of the 2021 regular season. He declined to undergo surgery during the offseason, instead opting for rehab. While Muncy has avoided the injured list -- or even a notable number of missed games -- early in the campaign, he has managed just a .150/.327/.263 line across 168 plate appearances. A stint on the injured list could allow Muncy to overcome the lingering pain and reset after his early struggles. He was held out of Thursday's lineup, with Edwin Rios entering the lineup as the designated hitter.

  • Ildemaro Vargas: Hits free agency

Vargas cleared waivers and was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Vargas was recently designated for assignment by Chicago, and he elected to become a free agent rather than report to the minors. The 30-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Cubs and had a .130/.231/.348 slash line with one home run and four RBI.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Dealing with leg soreness

Moncada isn't starting Thursday against the Red Sox due to leg soreness, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Manager Tony La Russa didn't sound too concerned about the severity of Moncada's injury but said that the team wanted to give the third baseman an extra day of rest prior to Friday's scheduled day off. Moncada should be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's series opener against the Cubs.
