  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Stuck in extended slump

Moustakas went 1-for-5 with a double in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Twins.

After opening August with four consecutive two-hit outings, Moustakas has fallen into a 4-for-30 tailspin at the plate in the Brewers' subsequent seven contests. He'll remain in the lineup as the Brewers' No. 5 hitter in the series finale Wednesday and has built up enough goodwill at this point to be in no danger of surrendering his everyday role. Manager Craig Counsell may look to give Moustakas an off day soon if the slump continues for much longer, however.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Begins rehab stint

Moncada (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

After some uncertainty surrounding a timetable, it's encouraging to see that the 24-year-old is ready for a return to game action. Barring any setbacks, Moncada could rejoin the major-league club as early as Monday.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Gets breather

Senzel is not starting Wednesday against the Nationals, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.

Senzel will retreat to the bench for what appears to be a routine day off after starting the first 12 games of August, going 10-for-49 with one home run and one stolen base during that stretch. Jesse Winker is covering center field in his stead.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

    Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Resting Wednesday

LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

LeMahieu will just be getting some maintenance after starting in nine of the Yankees' last 10 games following his return from a minor groin strain. Thairo Estrada, who was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier in the day, will fill LeMahieu's spot in the infield. Estrada will start at second base and bat ninth in the series finale.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Returns to lineup

Bregman (shoulder) is starting at third base and hitting cleanup Wednesday against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman has been cleared to rejoin the starting nine after sitting for both ends of Tuesday's twin bill due to a sore shoulder. The infielder, who is slashing .469/.564/.938 with 10 extra-base hits (two home runs, one triple and seven doubles) and 11 RBI in nine games this month, will face lefty Ross Detwiler in his return to action.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Orioles' Jace Peterson: Seeing steady work

Peterson will start in left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Yankees, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

He'll stick in the lineup for a seventh straight contest, with six of those starts coming in left field. So long as both DJ Stewart (concussion) and Dwight Smith (calf) are stuck on the injured list, Peterson looks well positioned to hold down an everyday gig. Peterson has helped his case to see steady playing time by posting a palatable .792 OPS thus far in August.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Gets third straight three-hit game

Urshela went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over Baltimore.

Urshela knocked in Aaron Judge with a double in the fourth inning and subsequently came around to score on a double by Gary Sanchez. The three-hit performance was his third straight in the series sweep of Baltimore in which Urshela went 9-for-14 while scoring five runs. Though his 356 plate appearances do not yet qualify for the batting title, he could challenge for the crown if he continues to start regularly the remainder of the season.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Braves' Josh Donaldson: Three hits in win

Donaldson went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Mets.

The veteran slugger is enjoying a strong start to August, slashing .317/.462/.463 through 12 games with an 11:10 BB:K. On the season, Donaldson is hitting .261 with 26 homers and 69 RBI in an impressive bounceback campaign.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Runs prior to game

Moncada (hamstring) executed some running exercises prior to Tuesday's doubleheader, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Manager Rick Renteria could not provide an update on a return for the injured third baseman. "He continues to improve but I really don't have a window for you today," Renteria said. Moncada has been out since July 31. At that time, the team speculated he might require a two-week stay on the IL, but it looks like his return will take longer.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Hits 19th homer

LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk during an 8-3 victory against the Orioles on Tuesday.

It wasn't a great night for the average, but LeMahieu added to his career-high mark in homers with a long ball to lead off the bottom of the first. LeMahieu should blow away his high-water marks in the home run and RBI categories and has a chance to set a new career high in runs as well. He also has firm control of the AL batting title race. LeMahieu is batting .337 with 19 home runs, 81 RBI, 84 runs and four steals in 442 at-bats this season.
