Devers entered Thursday's game for an injured Eduardo Nunez (knee) and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Devers was held out of the starting lineup for the third time in the last four games, but should be in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Mets while Nunez is day-to-day heading into the weekend. The homer was Devers' 17th of the season, but just the third since July 1. It's been a learning season for the third baseman, who has run into a sophomore slump after a promising rookie campaign. A couple of injuries derailed him over the past month, but even before that, he battled inconsistency at the plate and leads all third basemen with 22 errors, with advanced defensive metrics to match (-3.8 UZR, -11 DRS). "He missed not a few steps, a lot of steps, as far as like player development," manager Alex Cora told Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald while noting Xander Bogaerts and Andrew Benintendi went through similar introductions to the majors. "They've been through situations like that. Get called up early in their careers, and all of a sudden they're not playing, or there's struggles. He has a few mentors down there. The good thing is about him, he listens. He listens to them."

Machado went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, three RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Cardinals.

Machado took John Brebbia deep in the seventh inning to record his 34th home run of the season. He had turned in a productive effort before the home run, driving in runs on a double and sacrifice fly. While his production has met preseason expectations, the long ball was Machado's first since Aug. 30, and he has managed just five RBI in that span.

Segura (illness) will do some fielding drills prior to Thursday's game against the Angels, and he could be deployed as a pinch hitter in the series opener, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Segura has been dealing with an illness that has held him out for the past three contests, although given that he's planning on participating in some field work, it doesn't appear overly serious. Expect the 28-year-old to return to the starting nine sometime over the weekend.

Segura (illness) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Angels, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Segura will stick on the bench for a third straight game as he continues nurse an illness. The severity of the illness remains unclear, leaving his potential return date up in the air. Dee Gordon is covering shortstop in this one, with Robinson Cano sliding over to the keystone and Ryon Healy picking up a start at first base.

Muncy is out of the lineup versus the Cardinals on Thursday.

As expected, Muncy will retreat to the bench with left-hander Austin Gomber on the rubber for St. Louis. David Freese will draw a start at first base. Look for Muncy to return to the starting nine for Friday's game.

Chapman went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and an RBI single in a win over the Orioles on Wednesday. He also scored once.

Chapman opened up the scoring in the second inning by lacing his 39th two-bagger of the season to deep left, plating Nick Martini and Jonathan Lucroy in the process. The 25-year-old third baseman already has 10 RBI on just 11 hits in September, thanks in part to six of those going for extra bases. Chapman has also reached safely in 11 straight games, a streak that dates back to Aug. 31.

Devers is out of the lineup against Toronto on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Devers will head to the bench for the third time in the past four games as Eduardo Nunez gets the nod at third base for the series finale. Since coming off the disabled list last week, Devers has gone 1-for-11 with one walk and two runs scored.

Arenado went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Arenado brought home his first run with an RBI double in the third inning, then later brought Colorado back within one with a solo shot in the fifth. The 27-year-old has been as reliable as always, and is now hitting an even .300 to go along with 33 home runs and 99 RBI.

LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, two runs scored and a strikeout in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

LeMahieu was the hero in this one, depositing Yoshihisa Hirano's 1-1 offering with one out in the ninth over the fence for a walkoff win. The 30-year-old has been red hot all September, hitting .370 (17-for-46) in the month with three homers, three doubles, two triples and nine RBI.

Escobar went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

Escobar took Colorado starter Jon Gray deep in the third inning for his 21st home run of the season. The 29-year-old had been slumping a bit of late, but he's now tallied five hits over the last three games to bring his average to .260 since coming to Arizona. He's now matched his career-best total in home runs and has already set a personal best with 81 RBI.
