  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Mariners' Brian Anderson: Belts homer in Cactus League loss

Anderson went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the Mariners' Cactus League loss to the White Sox on Thursday.

Anderson's shot into right center in the second inning with Cade Marlowe aboard snapped a 1-1 tie. Anderson was a somewhat under-the-radar signing by the Mariners at the start of spring camp, and Thursday marked his Cactus League debut. With Luis Urias (shoulder) still rounding back into shape and limited to designated hitter duties for the time being, Anderson should have a solid amount of opportunity to make his case as a non-roster invitee in coming exhibitions.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Few days away from game action

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Friday that Henderson (oblique) could make his Grapefruit League debut early next week, Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Henderson was scheduled to take live batting practice Friday, and playing in games seems to be right around the corner. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year has been brought along slowly in Orioles' camp due to an oblique issue, but he continues to make progress. Henderson is expected to be ready to roll in time for Opening Day.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

    Tigers' Colt Keith: Managing illness

Keith is out of the lineup for Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies due to an illness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Keith hasn't seen the field since Tuesday due to the ailment but expects to rejoin the starting nine Saturday. The 22-year-old is poised to operate as Detroit's primary second baseman this season after inking a six-year, $28.64 million extension in January.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Taking live BP

Henderson (oblique) is taking live batting practice Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Henderson returned to regular batting practice Tuesday and has now progressed to facing live pitching. The 22-year-old has been brought along slowly early in camp due to an oblique issue, but he appears to be on the cusp of making his Grapefruit League debut.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Aiming for increased power

Bregman used weighted bats this offseason in the hopes of hitting for more power, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman has failed to top a .195 ISO in any of the last three seasons, and he's relied primarily upon a ballooning flyball rate for his homer production across the last two campaigns. Hitting coach Troy Snitker proposed the new workouts this offseason and Bregman relayed that he saw significant gains in his bat speed before reporting to spring training. He's set to hit free agency next winter, and a resurgence in his ability to go yard would certainly help him attract interest from the Astros and other organizations.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Battling quad tightness

Wisdom was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's Cactus League game against Colorado due to right quad tightness, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Wisdom's absence was described as precautionary, so his injury doesn't seem to be too severe. The Cubs may hold him out of the lineup for the next couple of exhibition games, but Wisdom should be able to return and continue competing for a roster spot soon. The 32-year-old is currently 1-for-8 with a double across three games in Cactus League play.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Could return Friday

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Peraza (shoulder) could return to Grapefruit League action as soon as Friday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Peraza had to be scratched from the lineup Tuesday because of shoulder tightness, but he didn't require any testing and could wind up missing just a couple days of action. The young infielder is attempting to win a reserve role for the Yankees.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

    Dodgers' Max Muncy: X-rays negative

X-rays on Muncy's left hand came back negative Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Muncy was hit in the hand by a pitch during Wednesday's Cactus League game against Texas, but he appears to have escaped with only a bruise. Muncy said the swelling on his hand has already gone down, but he has yet to swing a bat again. It may be a few days before the 33-year-old plays in another spring game, but he shouldn't be at risk of missing Opening Day.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Scratched from lineup

Wisdom was scratched from the Cubs' Cactus League lineup Thursday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

There's no word yet on why Wisdom was removed from the lineup, but the Cubs should offer an explanation soon. Matt Mervis will move from the designated hitter spot to take Wisdom's place at first base, while Pablo Aliendo will enter the lineup at DH.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Scratched with side tightness

Suarez was scratched from Arizona's lineup for Thursday's Cactus League game against the Giants due to left side tightness, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Suarez is day-to-day, so it doesn't seem Suarez's injury is too severe, but it will keep him out of game action nonetheless. Blaze Alexander will fill in as Arizona's third baseman Thursday while Suarez recovers.
