  • Drew Maggi 3B | PIT

Pirates' Drew Maggi: Getting first MLB start

Maggi will start at third base and bat eighth for the Pirates on Thursday afternoon against the Dodgers, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

It's Maggi's first-ever appearance in a major-league starting lineup, and it comes at age 33. The career minor-leaguer was called up when the Pirates placed Bryan Reynolds on the bereavement list last weekend, and he's stuck around through Reynolds' return to the team Wednesday.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Big performance against LA

Castro went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Castro entered Wednesday's game having gone just 3-for-22 across his prior seven games. However, he doubled and scored in the sixth inning and followed up with a two-RBI single in the seventh. Castro has a clear path to playing time for the foreseeable future with Oneil Cruz (ankle) out, and he's maintained a .273/.377/.424 line with two home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored across 77 plate appearances this year.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Starts at third

Rivera started at third base and went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Royals.

With lefty Ryan Yarbrough hurling for Kansas City, Josh Rojas was on the bench and Rivera started at third. Evan Longoria, who typically plays third against southpaws, served as the designated hitter. Rivera came home on a Longoria single in the fourth inning then an inning later, he delivered Alek Thomas home with a two-out base hit. Rivera is not expected to see many opportunities, but he could cement a role if he produces with the bat. In his first appearance after a callup from Triple-A Reno earlier this week, Rivera produced an RBI single as a pinch hitter.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Gets aboard four times

Ramirez went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.

Ramirez is 5-for-16 (.313) over his last four games, and four of his hits in that span have gone for extra bases. He also drew his first walks since April 15. The third baseman is slashing a solid .271/.357/.479 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases over 25 contests.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Athletics' Jace Peterson: Out against southpaw

Peterson is out of the lineup against the Angels on Wednesday.

Peterson is once again taking a seat against a southpaw as he has for the majority of the 2023 campaign. Aledmys Diaz will move over to the hot corner in Peterson's absence.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Four hits in win

Urias went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's victory over Boston.

Urias had an impressive series against the Red Sox, going 7-for-11 with three RBI and five runs scored. Through his first 75 plate appearances this season, Urias is slashing .292/.387/.415 with a home run, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored. He's been playing regularly between second and third base for Baltimore, though the 28-year-old infielder has yet to offer much in the way of power or speed this year. However, Urias has demonstrated some home run potential in the past -- he hit 16 homers in 403 at-bats last season.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Hits first two homers of season

Miranda went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 12-6 loss to the Yankees.

Miranda's first homer of the season cut the Yankees' lead to 5-1 in the second, and his second, a two-run blast, made it 11-3 in the fourth. The 25-year-old came into the contest slashing just .226/.287/.247, so his first two homers of the season could be a sign of better things to come. Either way, Miranda has appeared in 24 of Minnesota's first 25 games, so he appears to be an everyday player in his second big-league campaign.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Expected to return Friday

Muncy (personal) is expected to rejoin the Dodgers on Friday against the Cardinals, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Muncy will be joined by Brusdar Graterol in rejoining the club after being placed on the paternity list. In 90 plate appearances over 22 games, Muncy has hit a league-leading 11 homers while forging a 1.129 OPS.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Blasts walkoff Wednesday

Senzel went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, two runs scored and a steal in Wednesday's win over Texas.

Senzel smacked a two-run home run off Jonathan Hernandez in the bottom of the ninth, his first long ball of the season, giving the Reds a 5-3 win and a sweep of the Rangers. Senzel also logged a base hit in the fifth inning before stealing his second bag of the year. He was initially scheduled to get Wednesday's game off, though Sentzel took over at third base when Wil Myers (illness) was scratched. The 28-year-old Senzel is now 5-for-8 with four RBI in his last two games. He's slashing .227/.292/.318 with seven RBI and eight runs scored through 48 plate appearances.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

    Marlins' Jean Segura: Sitting out

Segura is absent from the Marlins' lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

It's a simple day of rest for the veteran third baseman. With Segura getting a night off, Jon Berti will start at the hot corner.
