  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: Filling in for resting Langeliers

MacIver will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Angels.

With top backstop Shea Langeliers resting for the day game, MacIver will receive a turn behind the plate. Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 5, MacIver has gone just 3-for-28 (.107 average) with four RBI, two runs and a stolen base in eight games.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Receiving rest Sunday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

The Athletics will give Langeliers a breather for the day game after he started at catcher or designated hitter in each of the previous four contests. Willie MacIver will step in behind the dish for Langeliers in the series finale.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Idle Sunday

Dingler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Dingler will get the Sunday afternoon game off after he had started behind the dish Friday and Saturday. Jake Rogers will handle catching duties for Detroit in the series finale.

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Idle Sunday

Quero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Sitting Sunday

Basallo (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The 20-year-old departed Saturday's game after taking a foul tip off his right hand. X-rays on his hand came back negative, so it appears Basallo won't miss extended time. Alex Jackson will step in behind the dish Sunday.

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Goes on IL with concussion

The Twins placed Jeffers on the 7-day injured list Sunday with a concussion.

Jeffers took a foul tip off the mask Thursday and had been held out of the lineup for Minnesota's ensuing two games. With the backstop now having been diagnosed with a concussion, he won't be eligible to rejoin the Twins until next Friday. Mickey Gasper and Jhonny Pereda will serve as the Twins' options behind the plate while both Jeffers and Christian Vazquez (shoulder) are on the shelf.

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Knocks in three

Diaz went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Rangers.

Diaz has also come through with timely hits lately, producing 15 RBI across his last 29 starts.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Gets aboard four times in big win

Langeliers went 3-for-6 with a double, a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 17-4 win over the Angels.

Langeliers was productive out of the leadoff spot and has hit safely in all four of his games in September so far. He's gone 6-for-18 with three walks and four strikeouts to begin the month. His steal Saturday was his first since July 30 versus the Mariners. The veteran backstop has now homered in three of his past nine games, though he's gone just 6-for-33 during that stretch. On the season, he's slashing .240/.283/.447 with 25 home runs, 81 RBI and 48 runs scored across 557 plate appearances.
