  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Picks up first steal

Rutschman went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.

Rutschman collected his fourth multi-hit effort in his last five games. He also logged his first steal of the season on his second attempt -- he's run less in 2023, as he had four thefts last season. The catcher is at a .273/.369/.430 slash line with 16 home runs, 59 RBI, 66 runs scored, 22 doubles and a triple through 120 contests overall, maintaining his place as one of the best backstops in baseball.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Receives breather Wednesday

Grandal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Carlos Perez will step in behind the dish while Grandal retreats to the bench for a day game after a night game. Grandal had been included in the lineup at either catcher or designated hitter in each of the last seven contests, going 4-for-25 with two walks, two runs and no RBI.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

    Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Resting Wednesday

Raleigh is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Raleigh is likely just receiving a breather for the matinee game after he started behind the dish both of the past two nights while going a combined 3-for-8 with two home runs, a double, a walk, seven RBI and three runs. Brian O'Keefe will handle the catching duties Wednesday.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

    Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Homers Tuesday

Rortvedt went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss against the Nationals.

Rortvedt was responsible for the Yankees' lone run in the 2-1 loss with a solo homer off Josiah Gray in the third inning, his second long ball of the season. The 25-year-old Rortvedt has seen the majority of the playing time behind the plate in New York recently, despite going just 1-for-22 in 11 contests prior to Tuesday's matchup. Overall, he's slashing just .136/.255/.295 with four runs scored and three RBI across 51 plate appearances this season.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Out Wednesday, but gaining reps

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Though he's on the bench for the day game after a night game, Vazquez may have supplanted Ryan Jeffers as the Twins' preferred catcher for the time being. Vazquez started behind the dish in four of the previous five contests and went 6-for-16 with a home run, two doubles, five runs and two RBI.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Clubs homer Tuesday

Garver went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Garver's recent strong stretch ended with a three-game slump in which he went 0-for-12, but he was back to bashing Tuesday. His homer was his fourth of the month and 10th of the season. The catcher is at a .277/.357/.495 slash line with 33 RBI, 25 runs scored and 10 doubles over 54 contests this year. Garver has seen most of his playing time at designated hitter since Jonah Heim returned from a wrist injury.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Pops another homer

Langeliers went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Royals.

After going 11 games without a homer, Langeliers has launched a long ball in back-to-back contests. The catcher has had a mediocre August, batting .229 (11-for-48) for the month. He's at a .206/.269/.375 slash line with 13 homers, 41 RBI, 38 runs scored and two stolen bases through 105 games this year as the Athletics' primary backstop.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Swats fourth homer

Vazquez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Brewers.

Vazquez notched his fourth long ball of the season and his first since July 26 on Tuesday, taking Wade Miley yard in the second inning with Kyle Farmer aboard. Though Vazquez has been a poor source of power this season, he's been a quality bat since the All-Star break (21 games), batting .274 with 10 runs scored and nine RBI while striking out at an 18.4 percent clip.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Hits bench Tuesday

Fermin is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Athletics.

Fermin will sit for the second time in the past three games. Prior to that, he had made four consecutive starts, going 3-for-10. With Nick Pratto still on the injured list, Salvador Perez will move back to catcher Tuesday and Matt Duffy will start at first base.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Late add to Tuesday's lineup

Diaz was a late addition to Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox, starting at designated hitter and batting cleanup, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Yordan Alavarez injured his left index finger in his door at home Tuesday, so he was a late scratch, with manager Dusty Baker expressing hope that he would be back in the mix Wednesday. Diaz has been playing pretty regularly at first base, designated hitter and catcher, and he is hitting .321 with five home runs in 16 games this month.
