  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

White Sox's Seby Zavala: Takes seat Sunday

Zavala is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Zavala started the past two games and will take a seat for the series finale Sunday afternoon. Reese McGuire will step in behind the plate for the White Sox, batting ninth.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Two-run homer in loss

Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss against the Rangers.

Sanchez knocked in Gio Urshela in the fourth inning to give Minnesota a short-lived 5-3 lead. In five appearances in July, the catcher has three hits, but he also has struck out exactly one time in each game. He has 73 strikeouts versus 53 hits on the year. Despite his strikeout woes, Saturday's one-hit outing helped raise his batting average to .221.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Riding pine Saturday

Trevino isn't in the lineup Saturday against Boston.

Trevino will get a breather after he went 3-for-8 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI over the last two games. Kyle Higashioka is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Traded to Tampa Bay

Bethancourt was traded from the Athletics to the Rays on Saturday in exchange for Cal Stevenson and Christian Fernandez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

It's been quite the year for Bethancourt, who returned to the majors for the first time since 2017 and performed well enough to catch the eye of an organization famous for spotting talent. Bethancourt was a light-hitting catcher for the early part of his career, hitting .222/.252/.316 in 161 games from 2013 to 2017, but he's posted a nearly average 99 wRC+ (the product of a .249/.298/.385 slash line) this season while making the majority of his starts at first base. Catcher is likely where the Rays see Bethancourt fitting in, as Mike Zunino remains out with a shoulder injury. His bat should play better there, and there's reason to believe he'll keep up his solid performance despite his lack of a track record, as his 14.0 percent barrel rate this season is quite strong.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Not in Saturday's lineup

Stassi will sit Saturday against the Orioles, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Stassi sits for the second time in three days. He hasn't had much success at the plate recently, grabbing just two hits in his last 10 games. Kurt Suzuki will get the start at catcher.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Retreats to bench Saturday

Hedges isn't starting Saturday's game against the Royals.

Hedges returned to the lineup Friday against Kansas City after recovering from a concussion, and he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Luke Maile is starting behind the dish and batting eighth Saturday.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: On bench Saturday

Jeffers isn't starting Saturday's game against Texas.

Jeffers went 4-for-9 with a homer, a double, three RBI, two runs and three strikeouts over the last two games and will get a breather Saturday. Gary Sanchez is starting behind the dish while Gilberto Celestino enters the lineup in center field.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Homers on rehab assignment

Grandal (back) went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run with two walks in a rehab appearance with Double-A Birmingham on Friday.

Grandal was in the lineup for the second consecutive game with Birmingham, and he served as the designated hitter on each occasion. He's gone 3-for-6 with four walks in his two starts, but he is still expected to remain on his rehab assignment through the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: In a groove

Vazquez went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Friday's 12-5 loss to the Yankees.

Vazquez continued a hot stretch with another three hits. He's hit safely in 13 of 14 games since June 21, slashing .400/.464/.560 with five RBI and seven runs scored.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Crushes eighth home run

Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in an 8-3 win over the Athletics on Friday.

Maldonado's three-run home run gives him eight long balls on the year to go along with 21 RBI. The 35-year-old catcher has put together a couple of good games in a row. In his previous game played against the Royals, he went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. The veteran has never hit more than 14 homers in a previous season and is a career .208 hitter.
