  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Not starting Sunday

Vazquez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.

Vazquez started the first two games of the series and will take a seat for the finale after going 2-for-7 with a double, a walk and two runs. Kevin Plawecki will operate behind the plate Sunday.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: On bench Sunday

Jeffers is not starting Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

An 0-for-4, three-strikeout performance Saturday lowered Jeffers' average to .233 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in his last 10 games. Ben Rortvedt is catching and batting ninth Sunday.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Goes deep in loss

Grandal went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday.

The White Sox struggled to get anything going offensively in the contest, and Grandal's sixth-inning 431-foot solo blast accounted for the team's only run. The homer was his 21st in 80 games this season, and the pair of walks evened Grandal's BB:K at 73:73. The backstop's .289 ISO and 23.4 percent walk rate are each on pace for career-best marks.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Orioles' Austin Wynns: Launches solo homer in loss

Wynns went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Red Sox.

Wynns took Nick Pivetta deep in the second inning to square the game at 3-3. It was the fourth homer of the year for the backup catcher, who has hit half of those within the past week. Wynns is 5-for-17 (.294) in five games during that stretch, collecting hits in four of them.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Athletics' Yan Gomes: Receives breather Saturday

Gomes is not in the lineup Saturday against the Angels.

Gomes went 1-for-5 with a run and a strikeout Friday and will take a seat for Saturday's contest. Sean Murphy will work behind the plate for the A's.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Sits again Saturday

Kirk remains on the bench for Saturday's game against the Twins.

The bat-first backstop owns a strong .823 OPS on the season, but he's hit just .125/.250/.250 across his last seven games. He sat in favor of Danny Jansen on Friday and will remain on the bench Saturday, with Reese McGuire taking over behind the plate.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Heads to bench

Haase will not start Saturday's game against the Rays.

Haase has gone cold at the plate in September, hitting just .171, though he does at least have a pair of homers. Dustin Garneau starts behind the plate Saturday, catching Tarik Skubal.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Resting Saturday

Perez will not start Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Perez has so far started every other game since he returned from a shoulder injury Tuesday. Austin Hedges takes over behind the plate.

  • Royals' Cam Gallagher: Embarks on rehab stint

Gallagher (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

The backstop went on the injured list Sept. 5 with left knee inflammation, but he's now set to resume playing in live games just 13 days later. Gallagher figures to get two or three games under his belt with Omaha before returning to Kansas City's active roster at some point next week.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

    Angels' Max Stassi: Sitting Friday

Stassi is not in the Angels' lineup Friday against the Athletics, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Stassi drew the start behind the plate Thursday and went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Kurt Suzuki has alternated starts with Stassi behind the plate for much of September and will take over behind the plate and hit sixth Friday.
