Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Sitting Saturday

Jansen is out of Saturday's lineup against the White Sox.

He will head to the bench a day after hitting his first home run of the season. Luke Maile will start behind the dish and hit ninth.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Blue Jays' Luke Maile: Back in action

Maile is starting at catcher and hitting ninth Saturday against the White Sox.

He was scratched from Friday's lineup for an unknown reason, but he's back in the mix a day later. This is only Maile's sixth start this month and he has two hits in 15 at-bats over that stretch.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Continues hot streak

Vazquez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and knocked in Boston's lone run in a 3-1 loss to Houston on Friday.

Quietly, Vazquez has raised his season average to .311 after a nine-game run that's seen him go 16-for-28 (.571) and raised his batting average 93 points since May 2. It seems impossible that Friday's RBI is the only run he's driven in during that stretch.

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Finally goes yard

Jansen went 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's 10-2 rout of the White Sox.

It took him 32 games, but Jansen finally has his first homer of 2019. The 24-year-old snapped a 1-for-24 slump with Friday's performance, but he's still dragging a .173/.261/.245 slash line on the year, and even in deep two-catcher leagues he's a long way from fantasy relevance.

  • Rays' Michael Perez: Remains weeks away

Perez (oblique) is making progress but remains weeks away from getting back on the field, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Initial reports when Perez landed on the injured list with a right oblique strain suggested that Perez would miss 2-to-3 weeks, but it's now been over a week and the timeline appears to be roughly the same. With Mike Zunino (quadriceps) also injured, the Rays have since acquired both Travis d'Arnaud and Erik Kratz, so it's unclear where exactly a healthy Perez would fit in the pecking order.

  • Rays' Anthony Bemboom: Out 4-to-6 weeks

Bemboom won't need surgery on his sprained knee but will nevertheless miss 4-to-6 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bemboom appeared in just three games before heading to the injured list. He was only on the roster due to injuries to Mike Zunino (quadriceps) and Michael Perez (oblique), so he may not have a job to come back to once healthy.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: On bench Friday

Narvaez will sit Friday against the Twins.

Narvaez sits for the second time in three games. Tom Murphy gets the nod behind the plate.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Blue Jays' Luke Maile: Scratched for unknown reasons

Maile was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.

The reason for the lineup change is not yet clear. Danny Jansen will take over behind the plate in Maile's absence.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Added to lineup

Jansen was added to the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox after Luke Maile was scratched.

Jansen will not wind up receiving his expected day off. It's not yet clear why Maile was scratched or how the issue will affect Jansen's playing time moving forward.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Not in lineup

Jansen is not starting Friday against the White Sox.

Jansen has just a single hit in his last nine contests, driving his season slash line down to an anemic .160/.245/.202. Luke Maile gets the call in his absence.
