  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Leaves yard in defeat

Narvaez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

Narvaez closed out the scoring with a ninth-inning solo shot, his first homer since April 19. The backstop already has a trio of multi-hit efforts in May, while his .297/.383/.486 season line (128 plate appearances) is fully comprised of career-best figures.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Gets breather Sunday

Garver is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Garver will get a breather after starting the second game of Saturday's twin bill, during which he went 1-for-4 with a triple, walk, RBI and a run. Willians Astudillo (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of the series finale and will check in behind the dish and serve as the Twins' leadoff hitter Sunday, but Garver seems to have established himself as the preferred option in the three-way timeshare at catcher.

  • Royals' Martin Maldonado: Day off Sunday

Maldonado is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Maldonado will head to the bench for the third straight Sunday as he gets a rest day after starting the last five games. Cam Gallagher will start behind the plate and bat eighth for the Royals in the series finale.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Won't start Sunday

Sanchez (head) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Though he wasn't forced to exit Saturday's contest, Sanchez was apparently struck in the head at one point in the contest when one of the Rays' batters hit him while following through on a swing. Fortunately, Sanchez passed all follow-up concussion tests afterward, implying that his absence Sunday may be for maintenance purposes more than anything else. Unless the Yankees provide word prior to Monday's series opener with the Orioles that Sanchez is dealing with a legitimate head injury, expect him to re-enter the lineup at catcher that day.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Resting in series finale

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

D'Arnaud went 0-for-3 with a walk while starting at catcher in his Rays debut Saturday. Though he'll temporarily slot as the Rays' top backstop with both Mike Zunino (quadriceps) and Michael Perez (oblique) on the 10-day injured list, d'Arnaud will take a seat in the series finale as Anthony Bemboom checks in behind the plate.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Collects four hits

McCann went 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jays.

McCann continues to hit at an elite level, registering his 10th multi-hit effort in 22 starts. He's up to .376/.418/.612, which blows away his career numbers. The catcher credits a new plate approach for his success. "Something I've learned over my career is that some of the times where you're failing or not having success, it's because you're trying to do too much," McCann told Madeline Kenney of the Chicago Sun-Times. "So my big thing is taking what's given to me and not trying to hit the seven-run homer that is impossible to hit." McCann's also adopted a wider stance, which he believes enables him to get his body out of the way of his swing.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Undergoes concussion tests

Sanchez underwent concussion tests after Saturday's loss to the Rays but indicated he feels fine, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Sanchez caught a backswing to the head at some point during the contest but still caught all eight innings defensively. The team will see how the 26-year-old feels Sunday morning and update his status from there.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Hits three-run shot

Leon went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer in a win over Seattle on Saturday.

The home run capped an eight-run third inning by the Red Sox and was Leon's first of the year. The catcher is hitting .222 in 11 games.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Added to active roster

D'Arnaud was added to the Rays' roster Saturday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

D'Arnaud was immediately added to the Rays' roster after being acquired by the club Friday. With fellow catchers Mike Zunino (quad) and Michael Perez (oblique) on the injured list and Nick Ciuffo optioned, d'Arnaud figures to get a chance to show what he can do right away.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Power surge continues

Garver went 1-for-1 with three walks, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 6-0 win over the Tigers.

He's now gone yard three times in his last four starts, pushing his slash line to an eye-popping .364/.440/.788 through 21 games with eight homers and 16 RBI. Jason Castro just recovered from an elbow bruise and Willians Astudillo is close to returning from a hamstring strain, but even when all his catchers are healthy it could be tough for manager Rocco Baldelli to take Garver out of the lineup.
