Giants catcher Hector Sanchez continues to make progress from a concussion suffered last weekend, and told the San Francisco Chronicle Friday he is feeling much better after some time off.
Sanchez could be cleared to begin taking part in baseball activities, including batting practice Friday.

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal was unable to play Thursday against the Cardinals because of fluid buildup in his right knee, U-T San Diego reports. He is expected to be "fine" moving forward, according to manager Bud Black.
Grandal has appeared in 82 of 108 games this season for San Diego. He is hitting .206 with nine homers and 24 RBI in 228 at-bats. -

Catcher Devin Mesoraco did hit part in vain to try to lead the Reds to victory Wednesday against visiting Arizona.
Mesoraco blasted a three-run homer in the ninth inning off Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed to cut the deficit to 5-4. He had already singled in improving his stat line to .295/.367/.589. His 18 home runs leads all major league catchers.

Martin Maldonado racks up three hits, four RBI in win
Catcher Martin Maldonado took advantage of a rare start for the Brewers on Wednesday in Tampa Bay with his first three-hit game since May 30.
Maldonado singled in two runs in the second and added RBI hits in the sixth and eighth to play the role of offensive hero. He sweetened his stat line to .270/.357/.405 in the process.

Mesoraco struck in his first at-bat. He worked a five-pitch at-bat against Chase Anderson, hitting a 91 mph fastball out to left for the solo shot. He walked and singled during the contest. Mesoraco finished 2 for 5, with one run scored and one RBI.

The catcher got in on the action during his first at-bat. He doubled on the first pitch he saw from A.J. Burnett. d'Arnaud would come in to score during the inning. In the fifth, d'Arnaud struck again, taking an 81 mph knuckle curve from Burnett out to left for a three-run shot. He doubled again later in the game. d'Arnaud finished 3 for 4, with two runs scored and three RBI.

Hector Sanchez fails concussion test Monday
Giants catcher Hector Sanchez failed a concussion test Monday, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports.
Sanchez will have to wait until at least Thursday before taking another test. He was placed on the disabled list Saturday after a foul tip caught him on the catcher's mask the previous day. Sanchez is just 2 for 19 over his last nine games.

The Marlins have demoted catcher Jacob Realmuto from Triple-A New Orleans and recalled outfielder Jake Marisnick from the same team.
Realmuto has four hits in 20 at-bats in his big league stints this season. Marisnick spent three weeks in the minors after managing eight hits - all singles - in 47 at-bats with Miami.
