Marlins' Nick Fortes: Remains on bench

Fortes is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Fortes will remain on the bench for a second game in a row Wednesday. Jacob Stallings will draw another start behind the plate and bat ninth in the series finale with St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: On bench again Wednesday

Contreras is out of the lineupWednesday versus the Marlins.

Contreras is on the bench for the third time in five games after he went 0-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts over the first two contests of the series. Ivan Herrera will draw the start at catcher and bat sixth as St. Louis goes for the series sweep over Miami.

  • Pirates' Endy Rodriguez: Day off Wednesday

Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Rodriguez will get a day off after he went 0-for-7 with six strikeouts over his first two major-league contests following his promotion Monday. Austin Hedges will start behind the plate and bat ninth in the series finale with Cleveland.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Goes yard twice in wild win

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with two walks, two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 11-10 win over the White Sox.

The rookie catcher smoked a pair of two-run blasts, taking Lucas Giolito deep in the first inning and Tanner Banks yard in the sixth to continue his July power surge. Alvarez is batting .368 (14-for-38) on the month with seven of his 19 homers on the year, and he's closing in on matching or surpassing the achievement of Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, who holds the single-season record for home runs by a catcher 21 years or younger with 26. Alvarez doesn't turn 22 until November.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Signs deal for '24

D'Arnaud signed a one-year, $8 million contract with Atlanta on Tuesday.

The deal also includes an $8 million club option for 2025 with no buyout. The 34-year-old backstop has seen a drop in playing time since the arrival of Sean Murphy, but d'Arnaud has made the most of his opportunities with a .265/.338/.478 slash line through 151 plate appearances this season.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Sitting Tuesday

Stephenson isn't in the Reds' lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

Stephenson is 0-for-21 across his last seven games, so he'll receive a day off Tuesday to regroup. Curt Casali will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth.

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Not in lineup Tuesday

Fortes is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Cardinals.

Jacob Stallings will start at catcher and bat ninth for the visiting Marlins. He and Fortes have been trading off playing time since the All-Star break, and neither backstop offers much in the way of fantasy production.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Optioned to El Paso

San Diego optioned Nola to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Nola has failed all year to find a groove offensively and the Padres no longer have to practice patience with him because Luis Campusano (thumb) is back to full health.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Back from 60-day IL

San Diego activated Campusano (thumb) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Finally recovered from May 12 surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, Campusano is back to help out at catcher and DH in San Diego. He posted an encouraging .920 OPS with one homer and three doubles in eight rehab games between the Arizona Complex League and Triple-A El Paso.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: On bench again Tuesday

Moreno is not in the lineup Tuesday against Atlanta.

Carson Kelly will make a third straight start at catcher and hit eighth as the Diamondbacks try to get his bat going. No matter who's played behind the plate in Arizona, the position has not been fruitful for fantasy purposes so far in 2023.
