  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Drives in four in big win

Murphy went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and four RBI in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox.

The former Oakland catcher was just named NL Player of the Week, but he isn't resting on his laurels. Murphy has racked up five multi-hit performances in the last nine games, batting a thunderous .414 (12-for-29) over that stretch with two doubles, three homers, six runs and an incredible 16 RBI, and he now leads the entire National League in that category with 32 runs driven in.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Goes yard twice in loss

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Reds.

He took Luke Weaver deep in both the third and sixth innings, giving the 21-year-old backstop his first career multi-homer game in the majors. Alvarez has gotten comfortable at the plate for the Mets after a sluggish couple of weeks following his promotion, and over his last 12 games he's batting .323 (10-for-31) with two doubles, three home runs, five RBI and six runs.

  • Brewers' Victor Caratini: Smacks homer

Caratini went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 loss against the Dodgers.

Caratini hit one of the two Milwaukee homers in the seventh inning. The backup catcher has two home runs on the season and an .867 OPS. He is William Contreras' backup but has produced at the plate when given at bats.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Homers, collects three hits

Smith went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 6-2 victory over the Brewers.

Smith smoked a cutter from Eric Lauer for a solo shot in the third inning. The Dodgers' catcher has four multi-hit games and a .385/.485/.692 slash line in the month of May. Smith has struck out just six times this season and boasts a career-best 1.026 OPS in 2023.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Close to return

Cubs manager David Ross said Tuesday that Gomes (concussion) is close to being activated, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It sounds like it could happen ahead of Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Cardinals. Ross was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday, but the move was made retroactive to last Tuesday, and he has been participating in baseball activities without issue since the weekend.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Gets breather Tuesday

Contreras is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Victor Caratini will start at catcher and bat sixth versus the Dodgers and right-hander Noah Syndergaard. Contreras is slashing .321/.424/.536 this year off lefties but just .260/.333/.356 against righties.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Not in lineup Tuesday

D'Arnaud is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.

D'Arnaud will be a bench option for Atlanta in his first game back from the concussion IL. He was drawing everyday starts between catcher and designated hitter prior to the head injury, but the NL East leaders will apparently ease him into action. Sean Murphy is catching Tuesday and Marcell Ozuna is filling the DH role.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Mets' Gary Sanchez: Reaches minors deal with Mets

Sanchez signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Sanchez opted out of his minor-league deal with the Giants last week after hitting just .164/.319/.182 with zero home runs and 19 strikeouts in 16 games at Triple-A Sacramento. The Mets will hope he can rediscover his power stroke at Triple-A Syracuse and give them some needed catching depth with Omar Narvaez (calf) slated to miss at least another month.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Racks up three hits, steals base

Moreno went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base against Miami in a 5-2 victory Monday.

Moreno posted his second three-hit performance of the season, with his single in the sixth inning plating one of Arizona's five runs. The catcher also stole his first base as a big-leaguer in the fifth, though he was stranded at second. Moreno has been mostly as advertised so far this season, posting a standout .315 batting average but producing just one home run through 89 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Drives in two runs

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 3-1 win over the Cubs.

Making his return to Wrigley Field, Contreras knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning with an RBI double and brought home an insurance run in the eighth. He has multiple hits in four of his last eight games, going 10-for-34 (.294) during that stretch. Contreras improved his season slash line to .273/346/.405 with 12 extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 136 plate appearances.
