Contreras is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.

Victor Caratini will catch and bat eighth versus the Astros and right-hander J.P. France. Contreras has an .873 OPS this year against lefties compared to a .675 OPS against righties.

Pineda (finger) was cleared Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wilmington, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Pineda was placed on the major-league injured list just before Opening Day after suffering a fractured finger on his right hand during spring training. He'll probably be stationed at Triple-A Rochester whenever he's deemed fully healthy, with Keibert Ruiz and Riley Adams remaining up as the catching tandem in Washington.

Alvarez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs.

Gary Sanchez will get the start at catcher and bat ninth versus the Cubs and left-hander Drew Smyly. Mark Vientos is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth.

Diaz went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk and two RBI in Monday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Diaz had an RBI double in the first inning and added a solo shot in the sixth. He's hit safely in eight of his last nine games, going 11-for-33 (.333) over that span, but his homer was his first since May 2. The catcher is slashing a strong .333/.391/.489 with four long balls, 24 RBI, 17 runs scored and nine doubles through 41 contests this season.

Maile went 1-for-3 with a steal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees.

It was the first steal since 2019 for Maile, who's started three of the Reds' last four games behind the plate, with Tyler Stephenson getting more time at DH. The 32-year-old Maile has made the most of his expanded role, going 4-for-10 with two homers and four RBI in that span. While it's still hard to envision Maile becoming a regular fantasy option, he's gotten off to a nice start this season, slashing .286/.348/.548 with five RBI and six runs scored through 46 plate appearances.

D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Mariners.

He took George Kirby deep in the sixth inning to cap the scoring for Atlanta. D'Arnaud missed over a month due to a concussion and has only played 13 games so far this season, but the 34-year-old has been plenty productive, slashing .314/.340/.431 with one homer, four runs and six RBI.

Fortes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Giants.

Fortes went deep in the fourth inning off Alex Wood. While he's gone 5-for-16 (.313) across his last five games, Fortes hadn't knocked an extra-base hit since his only other homer of the season against the Mets on April 1. The catcher owns a meager .211/.260/.278 slash line with two long balls, seven RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases through 96 plate appearances.

Bailey went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Marlins.

Bailey had four homers over 28 games at the top-two levels of the minors, and he showed off that power Sunday. He went yard in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 in just his third major-league contest. The 23-year-old catcher also showed the ability to play small ball, making a productive out in the sixth to drive in another run. Bailey slashed just .196/.300/.333 in 14 contests with Triple-A Sacramento to begin the season, but he's now poised for a chance to share time with Blake Sabol behind the dish in the majors while Joey Bart heals from a groin injury.

Contreras went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Rays.

Contreras clubbed a monster 427-foot two-run home run in the fifth frame off Cooper Criswell as part of a four-run inning for the Brewers. However, the 25-year-old struck out twice Sunday, reaching that mark for the third time in his last four appearances. After slashing .278/.354/.506 with 20 homers with Atlanta last season, Contreras has touted a quieter .252/.342/.405 slash line with four long balls across 36 games in 2023.

Adams went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a solo home run in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Tigers.

Adams' solo shot in the second extended Washington's lead to 4-0. He added a single his next time up and hit back-to-back doubles in his final two at-bats, marking the first four-hit game of his career. The 2017 third-round pick continues to see sporadic time as the backup catcher behind Keibert Ruiz, but Adams' offensive explosion Sunday may earn him a few more looks moving forward.
