The Giants signed Cartaya to a minor-league contract Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Cartaya was released by the Twins last week after going 5-for-59 with 40 strikeouts at Triple-A St. Paul. He's a former top prospect and still just 23, so the Giants felt Cartaya warranted a look on a minor-league pact.

Adams went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's victory over the Astros.
Adams snapped a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning Monday with a solo home run that held up as the game-winner for the Nationals. The catcher has had a rough 2025 campaign, slashing .169/.217/.346 with five doubles, six home runs and 16 RBI over 42 games. With Keibert Ruiz (concussion) sidelined, Adams has been sharing catching duties with Drew Millas.

Goodman went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Monday's 8-6 win over the Guardians.
Goodman helped spark a late comeback, launching a solo homer in the eighth inning and following with an RBI double during a four-run ninth. The All-Star has remained locked in since the break, tallying four multi-hit efforts with four extra-base hits, seven RBI and four runs over eight contests. On the season, he's slashing .282/.327/.523 with 19 homers, 59 RBI, 50 runs scored and one steal across 379 plate appearances.

With Danny Jansen joining the Brewers via trade with Tampa Bay, the Brewers needed to create a 40-man roster spot, and Haase is the odd man out in Milwaukee. Haase slashed .229/.289/.357 with two home runs, nine RBI, 11 runs scored and a 4:31 BB:K across 77 plate appearances this season.

The left-handed-hitting Baldwin will be given a breather in the series opener while the Royals send southpaw Rich Hill to the bump. Marcell Ozuna will get the nod at designated hitter in place of Baldwin, who hit .250 with five doubles, nine RBI and five runs while starting in each of Atlanta's previous 10 games.

Smith has been productive at the plate thus far in the second half, batting .290 with a pair of solo home runs and a 4:7 K:BB in 10 games since the All-Star break.
