  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Situated on bench

    Stallings isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.

    Stallings will head to the bench after going 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored Monday evening in the series opener. Elias Diaz is set to handle the catching duties and hit seventh with Stallings out of the mix.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Sent back to Triple-A

    Barnes was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

    Barnes will head back to the minor leagues following the return of Russell Martin from the bereavement list, though he's expected to be recalled when rosters expand in September. Barnes is slashing .198/.288/.333 with five homers and 23 RBI over 71 games in the majors this season.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Singles three times

    Realmuto went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Monday's 6-5 win over the Pirates.

    Realmuto racked up three singles and scored both his runs on home runs by Brad Miller and Corey Dickerson. The 28-year-old is up to 79 runs scored this season with a .275/.331/.474 triple-slash.

    Marlins' Chad Wallach: Set for further evaluation

    Wallach (concussion) paused his rehab assignment for further evaluation Monday, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

    Wallach has been battling a concussion since late May. He's made a pair of brief rehab appearances, the latest lasting just a single game. Given the difficult nature of head injuries, it's tough to say when Wallach is expected to return to the field.

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Day off Sunday

    Smith is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Yankees, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

    Smith started the first two games of the series and went 1-for-7 with four strikeouts and a walk, and he'll receive a breather Sunday night. Austin Barnes will start behind the plate and bat eighth in the series finale.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Not starting Sunday

    Caratini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

    Caratini went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two strikeouts Saturday and will return to the bench for the series finale. Jonathan Lucroy will start behind the plate and bat sixth Sunday.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Will be optioned, then recalled

    Barnes will be optioned once Russell Martin (personal) returns to the team but will be recalled once rosters expand in September, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

    Barnes was recalled Saturday to serve as the team's backup catcher in the absence of Russell Martin. However, Martin is set to return to the team Tuesday, at which point Barnes will be sent back down to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The shuffle will continue, however, once rosters expand Sept. 1, and Barnes will be recalled to serve as the third catcher for the team for the remainder of the campaign.

    Mets' Tomas Nido: Placed on injured list

    Nido has been placed on the seven-day injured list after entering concussion protocol, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

    Nido was hit in the head on the backswing of Josh Donaldson and was forced to exit Friday's contest. He's apparently experienced concussion symptoms since, and he'll head to the injured list. Rene Rivera is expected to join the big-league club in Nido's absence.

    Braves' Alex Jackson: Optioned to Triple-A

    Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

    Jackson was optioned after the Braves signed Francisco Cervelli. He was just called up Wednesday, but he drew only one start in the three-game span. Jackson has yet to record a hit in 13 major-league at-bats.
