Giants' Joey Bart: Gets Monday off

Bart isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bart will take a seat for a second straight day after also sitting out of Sunday's series finale against the Brewers. Blake Sabol draws the start behind the dish and will bat seventh in Bart's place.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Gets day off Monday

Maldonado is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Maldonado went 1-for-6 in two appearances in the three-game set against Seattle, and he'll retreat to the bench to open the series against the Angels on Monday. Yainer Diaz is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Angels' Chad Wallach: Dealing with sore neck

Wallach woke up with a sore neck before Sunday's game against the Rangers and he'll test it out during pregame activities Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Wallach wasn't likely to play Monday anyway against right-hander Hunter Brown, but his availability off the bench will be determined in large part by how he looks in the pre-game workout. The Angels have Chris Okey up on the taxi squad, so it's possible the team could bring up Okey to be the backup backstop if they determine Wallach needs a short stint on the injured list.

  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

White Sox's Seby Zavala: Retreats to bench Monday

Zavala is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

Zavala had started at catcher in three of the White Sox's previous four games, in part due to the fact that Yasmani Grandal had been limited to designated-hitter duties while dealing with a back spasm. With Grandal reprising his usual duties behind the plate Monday, Zavala will retreat to the bench and may see more sporadic playing time moving forward.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Heads to bench Monday

Amaya is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

After starting three of the past four games at catcher while going 2-for-7 with a pair of RBI, Amaya will take a seat for the series opener with St. Louis while Tucker Barnhart checks in behind the dish. Amaya's run with the big club will likely come to an end soon, as Yan Gomes (concussion) took part in all baseball activities Monday and may be ready to return from the 7-day injured list later this week.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Going through baseball activities

Gomes (concussion) will go through normal baseball activities Monday, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.

It would seem to be a good sign that Gomes' return in imminent, provided he doesn't experience any setbacks. He's eligible for activation Tuesday. Tucker Barnhart and Miguel Amaya have been sharing catching duties since Gomes' concussion.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Moves to bench Monday

Bethancourt is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bethancourt will get a breather after he caught both of the final two games of the Rays' series with the Yankees over the weekend. Francisco Mejia will spell Bethancourt behind the dish.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Gets maintenance day

Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Smith was probably overdue for a day off after he had started nine consecutive games at either catcher or designated hitter since returning from a concussion April 28. Austin Barnes will form a battery with starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin on Monday while Smith gets a breather for the series opener in Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: At DH in return to Wrigley

Contreras is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Cubs, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

In his first game back at Wrigley Field since signing with the Cardinals, Contreras will occupy the DH spot which will be his new home in the coming weeks. Andrew Knizner will catch Miles Mikolas.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Takes seat Monday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

After catching in three of the Tigers' last four games, Rogers will receive a breather while Eric Haase gets a turn behind the plate. Rogers was the Tigers' offensive star in Sunday's 12-6 loss to the Cardinals, with his grand slam accounting for two-thirds of his team's runs on the day.
