  • Yohel Pozo C | STL

Cardinals' Yohel Pozo: Exiting lineup for series finale

Pozo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

After catching all nine innings of Saturday's 9-1 loss, Pozo will take a seat for the series finale. Pedro Pages will get the nod behind the dish Sunday.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Out Sunday, will start Monday

Narvaez (knee) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed that the catcher will return to the starting nine for Monday's series opener in Houston, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Narvaez hasn't played since Tuesday while he's managed a sore left knee, but Cora noted that the backstop will be available off the bench Sunday. Connor Wong had filled in for Narvaez in each of the Red Sox's previous three games, and Cora said that he elected to stick with Wong behind the dish Sunday because he typically serves as starter Brayan Bello's personal catcher. Once he returns to the lineup Monday, Narvaez should resume handling his usual duties as Boston's No. 1 backstop.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Filling in for banged-up Narvaez

Wong will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Padres.

Wong will draw his fourth straight start behind the plate while top backstop Carlos Narvaez (knee) remains day-to-day. Per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald, manager Alex Cora said that Narvaez is available for Sunday's series finale, but the Red Sox are electing to stick with Wong since he serves as starting pitcher Brayan Bello's personal catcher. Cora added that Narvaez will return to the lineup Monday in Houston, and Wong is likely to see his playing time tail off as a result.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Resting Sunday

Kirk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Kirk will get some rest for the Sunday afternoon game after he started behind the dish in both of the previous two contests. Tyler Heineman will handle catching duties for Toronto in the series finale.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Resting for series finale

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

After catching eight innings and going 1-for-3 with a walk Saturday, Alvarez will get a breather for the Sunday afternoon contest. Luis Torrens will work behind the plate.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

    Guardians' Bo Naylor: Resting Sunday

Naylor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

He'll receive a breather after starting the first two games in Chicago while going 1-for-6 with two walks and a run. The Guardians will go with Austin Hedges at catcher in the series finale.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Resting after big Saturday

Baldwin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Baldwin will get a chance to catch his breath after he started the first four games of the series, including both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, while going 7-for-17 with two home runs, one walk, 10 RBI and four runs. Sean Murphy will handle catching duties and Marcell Ozuna will get the nod at designated hitter.

  • J.C. Escarra C | NYY

Yankees' J.C. Escarra: Summoned from Triple-A

The Yankees recalled Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Escarra was pushed off the 26-man roster July 30 to clear space for some trade deadline arrivals, but he'll rejoin the Yankees after Amed Rosario (collarbone) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Escarra will provide a third option at catcher behind Austin Wells and Ben Rice, and he's also seen occasional action at first base and third base this season.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Getting afternoon off

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Diaz will get a break after he had started at designated hitter or catcher in 11 straight games while batting .302 with three home runs, 10 RBI and six runs. With Diaz on the bench, Victor Caratini will handle catching duties and Jose Altuve will serve as Houston's DH.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Trending toward Monday return

Narvaez (knee) is expected to return to the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Astros, MLB.com reports.

Narvaez, who last appeared in a game Aug. 5, continues to nurse a sore knee but is expected to avoid a stint on the injured list. Connor Wong has started the past three games at catcher and will likely be behind the plate for Sunday's game in San Diego, but Narvaez should be ready to take over as Boston's No. 1 catcher in the Houston series.
