  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

    Yankees' Jose Trevino: Sitting Monday

Trevino isn't starting Monday against the Rangers.

Trevino has gone 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts over his last two games, and he'll head to the bench for the fourth time in the last six matchups. Kyle Higashioka will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Moves into No. 2 role

Gomes will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game in Cincinnati.

Though he's in the lineup Monday, Gomes has moved back to the No. 2 role at catcher after Willson Contreras returned from the injured list last week. Contreras is just getting a breather, so Gomes will pick up a start in his stead.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Riding pine Monday

Contreras isn't in the lineup Monday against Cincinnati.

Contreras started the last two games and went 0-for-6 with a run and two walks. He'll get a breather while Yan Gomes starts behind the dish and bats eighth.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Makes start at DH

Mejia will serve as the Rays' designated hitter and No. 8 batter in Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mejia will pick up his fourth start in five games, this time in a non-defensive role after he worked behind the plate Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Though he's seen an uptick in work of late, Mejia owns a pedestrian .596 OPS since the start of September and still looks to be the Rays' No. 2 option at catcher behind Christian Bethancourt.

  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Absent from Monday's lineup

Stallings isn't starting Monday against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Stallings went 0-for-3 with an RBI during Sunday's series finale against Milwaukee, and he'll retreat to the bench for the third time in the last five games. Nick Fortes will start behind the plate and bat sixth.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Remains on bench

Perez (thumb) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Perez's sore left thumb will keep him on the bench for the second day in a row, but the Royals haven't yet placed him on the injured list and presumably remain hopeful that he might be able to start in either of the remaining two games on the team's 2022 schedule. MJ Melendez will get a turn behind the dish Monday in Perez's stead.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Smacks 22nd homer

Realmuto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Nationals in six innings.

Before rain resulted in the series finale being cut short, Realmuto enjoyed another strong two-way game, connecting on his 22nd home run of season while also throwing out a would-be base stealer in the third inning. Thanks in large part to Realmuto producing three extra-base hits over the weekend, the Phillies' magic number now sits at one heading into Monday's series opener in Houston. If the Phillies can grab a win in the next two days or if Milwaukee loses to Arizona on Monday or Tuesday, Realmuto would likely be a candidate to sit out Wednesday's regular-season finale for rest purposes.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Goes deep again Sunday

Haase went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored and two total RBI in Sunday's win over the Twins.

After going deep Saturday, Haase hit another home run Sunday, pushing him to 14 long balls this season. He seems unlikely to match last year's 22 home runs, though his .257 batting average and .757 OPS are both improvements on his 2021 figures. After two solid seasons, Haase should head into 2023 with a fairly solid role in Detroit, likely as the team's top catcher.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Crushes two homers

Langeliers went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and a walk in Sunday's 10-3 win over the Mariners.

Langeliers provided the Athletics' first and last scoring plays in the game. He hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and a three-run blast in the ninth. The catcher went yard three times in as many games in this weekend series versus the Mariners while snapping his 20-game power drought Friday. He's up to six long balls, 20 RBI, 14 runs scored and a .222/.246/.444 slash line through 37 contests in his major-league career.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Reaches base four times

Rutschman went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two walks in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees.

Rutschman scored on Ryan Mountcastle's double in the first inning before crossing home again in the seventh. The star rookie improved his season slash line to .254/.361/.448 with 70 runs scored and 49 extra-base hits through 111 games. Rutschman had gone 4-for-28 (.143) with eight strikeouts over his previous seven games.
