  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

    Rangers' Mitch Garver: Sitting Sunday

Garver is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Brad Miller will get a turn as the designated hitter against right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Garver is batting .250/.357/.417 with one home run in eight games since his return from the COVID-19-related injured list. He remains limited to DH duty due to a forearm injury that will eventually require surgery.

  • Tres Barrera C | WAS

    Nationals' Tres Barrera: Two-RBI performance

Barrera went 1-for-2 with two RBI in Saturday's loss to Miami.

His two RBI came on a single in the second inning that saw Nelson Cruz and Lane Thomas cross the plate before Barrera advanced to second base on a throwing error -- the Marlins' third error of the inning. It was the catcher's first appearance this season, but it should give him confidence going forward after picking up a hit and two RBI. Barrera is the new backup behind Keibert Ruiz after Riley Adams was demoted.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Launches 11th long ball

Heim went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a 7-3 victory versus the Mets.

Heim hit one of four homers for the Rangers in the contest, going deep to right field in the second inning. The long ball was his 11th of the campaign, giving him a new single-season high after he slugged 10 in 2021. Heim's homer also moved him into a tie for third place in that category among major-league backstops on the campaign.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Goes deep twice Saturday

Maldonado went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs in a 9-1 win over the Angels on Saturday.

Houston knocked five homers in the victory, with Maldonado accounting for two of them. He took Patrick Sandoval deep to left in the second inning and tagged Andrew Wantz for a 429-foot shot to center in the sixth. This was the backstop's first multi-homer game of the campaign. He's struggled with the bat overall this season, slashing .153/.219/.307 with seven homers and 18 RBI over 194 plate appearances.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Crushes another homer

Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Padres.

Six of Smith's 13 homers this year have come in his last 15 games. During that span, he's hitting .302 (19-for-63) while adding 12 RBI and seven runs. The catcher has maintained a large share of playing time by regularly serving as the designated hitter when he isn't behind the dish. He's up to a .260/.345/.472 slash line with 38 RBI, 31 runs scored and 10 doubles through 264 plate appearances this year.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Homers twice in Game 2

Mejia went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

The Rays knocked Thomas Hatch around for 10 runs in the nightcap, and Mejia was right in the middle of it. Mejia had three home runs for the season coming into the game. He raised his OPS from .588 to .642 with this one performance and will continue operating as the Rays' No. 1 catcher while Mike Zunino (shoulder) is on the injured list.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Bumped up to Triple-A

Alvarez was informed Saturday that he is being promoted to Triple-A Syracuse, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

The 20-year-old is expected to join the Mets' top minor-league affiliate Monday. Alvarez finishes his time with Double-A Binghamton with a .277/.368/.553 line, 18 homers and 47 RBI in 67 games -- beyond impressive for his age at that level. Alvarez is widely considered the Mets' top prospect and one of the top catching prospects in all of baseball. If he picks up where he left off, Alvarez could get a look in Queens before the end of the 2022 season.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Not starting Saturday

Diaz isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

Diaz will get a breather after he went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts over the last two games. Brian Serven is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: On bench for nightcap

Trevino isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland.

Trevino started behind the dish during Saturday's matinee and went 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Kyle Higashioka is taking over at catcher and batting ninth in the second game.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Not in Saturday's lineup

Vazquez isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Vazquez is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak in which he's gone 8-for-18 with two doubles, four runs and two RBI. He'll get a breather while Kevin Plawecki starts behind the dish and bats eighth.
