  • Chris Okey C | LAD

Reds' Chris Okey: Officially joins big-league club

Okey had his contract selected by the Reds on Friday.

Okey has a .265/.324/.441 slash line in 24 games for Triple-A Louisville this season, and he should serve as the Reds' secondary option at catcher behind Aramis Garcia while Stephenson is sidelined.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Placed on 10-day IL

Stephenson (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Bethancourt went 3-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's loss to the Guardians.

Bethancourt gave the Athletics an early lead with a two-run homer in the second inning. The catcher also came around to score in the sixth after sparking a rally with a two-out single. Across 38 games, Bethancourt is slashing .245/.292/.377 with two home runs and 12 RBI.

The 31-year-old has a career .221/.259/.330 line with nine homers in 116 major-league games over four seasons. He should serve as the backup catcher behind Curt Casali while Joey Bart attempts to figure things out at Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Slated to travel with Brewers

Narvaez (illness) will travel with the Brewers during their upcoming road trip to Washington, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Narvaez spent a week away from the team while on the COVID-19 injured list, but he's closing in on a return. It's not yet clear whether the 30-year-old will be activated Friday or if he'll require a few days of on-field work prior to returning to game action. Regardless, Narvaez should reclaim his job as the Brewers' primary catcher once he's officially reinstated from the IL.
