Amaya (oblique) has started a hitting program, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Amaya began a throwing program June 15, and he has now started to do work from the plate as well. Manager Craig Counsell said Monday that the team is targeting a return for the catcher around the All-Star break. Amaya has been on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique injury since May 24, but he appears to be on the cusp of launching a minor-league rehab assignment.

Kelly is starting at catcher and batting sixth in Monday's game against the Cardinals.

After getting a breather Sunday, Kelly will return to the lineup to face lefty starter Matthew Liberatore in St. Louis. Kelly's current backup, Reese McGuire, launched his fourth home run of the year Sunday in only 12 games, while Kelly has been slumping recently. The latter should remain Chicago's top catcher as long as Miguel Amaya (oblique) is sidelined, but McGuire could carve out a larger role in the short term if he stays hot and Kelly continues to struggle.

Narvaez is not in the Red Sox's starting lineup against the Angels on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Narvaez will take a seat after going 2-for-10 with one double and five strikeouts in two starts during the Red Sox's three-game weekend road series against the Giants. Connor Wong will serve behind home plate and bat eighth.

Maldonado is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Nationals on Monday.

Maldonado will take a seat while Elias Diaz serves behind home plate and bats ninth. Maldonado has gone 6-for-31 (.194) with one home run, two RBI and 17 strikeouts since the beginning of June.

O'Hoppe is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

It appears to be a routine day off for O'Hoppe, who started at catcher in each of the previous two contests. Travis d'Arnaud will be behind the dish and bat fifth for the Halos in the series opener.

The Diamondbacks designated Garcia for assignment Monday.

The signing of veteran catcher James McCann was made official Monday, so Garcia's presence is no longer required. Garcia accepted an outright assignment by the Diamondbacks earlier this month and could do so again, assuming he clears waivers.

The Diamondbacks signed McCann to a one-year contract Monday.

The veteran backstop will share catching duties with Jose Herrera while Gabriel Moreno (hand) is on the injured list. Before Atlanta released him over the weekend, McCann had played exclusively in the minors in 2025, slashing .305/.345/.510 over 165 plate appearances. The 35-year-old owns a .673 OPS over parts of 11 seasons in the big leagues but probably offers more value as a game caller and a defender than as a hitter at this stage of his career.

Baldwin is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Mets.

Baldwin started the last two and four of the last five games, but he will get a day off in Monday's series opener. Sean Murphy is catching and batting sixth for Atlanta.

Trevino will start at catcher and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Yankees.

Tyler Stephenson remains the Reds' No. 1 catcher, but Trevino has been seeing more work of late behind the dish while Stephenson has become more of a factor at designated hitter. Gavin Lux had been serving as the Reds' primary DH, but he's been getting more exposure to third base in recent days while the Reds have struggled to generate production at the position from Santiago Espinal and Christian Encarnacion-Strand. Though Encarnacion-Strand will cover the hot corner Monday, Lux will play left field to keep the DH spot open for Stephenson, thereby paving the way for Trevino to start at catcher for the third time in four games. Expect Trevino's playing time to eventually take a hit once Noelvi Marte (oblique) returns from the IL and likely steps back in as the Reds' everyday third baseman.

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.

Jeffers will get a break in the series opener after he started each of the previous four days, with three of those starts coming at catcher. Christian Vazquez will replace Jeffers behind the plate Monday.
