  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Receives breather Sunday

Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Contreras was out of the lineup for Friday's contest and will return to the bench for the series finale after going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, two runs scored and a walk Saturday. Victor Caratini will start behind the dish for the Cubs in the series finale.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Starts at first base

Vazquez made his first career start at first base Saturday and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in an 11-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora wanted to take advantage of Vazquez's uber-hot bat. Vazquez, who has homered eight times in the last 19 games, is slashing .298/.330.527 with 15 home runs in 76 games.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Getting day off

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Sanchez caught the first two games of the series and took part in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, so he'll be extended a breather as the Yankees and Blue Jays wrap up their three-game set with a matinee contest. Austin Romine will handle catching duties for the Yankees.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Returns to bench Sunday

Gomes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Gomes went 0-for-2 with a walk Saturday but will take a seat for the second time in three games coming out of the All-Star break. Kurt Suzuki will start behind the plate in his place.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Back on bench Sunday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

D'Arnaud started two of the Rays' first three games out of the All-Star break, racking up four hits, four runs and an RBI in those contests. He remains the No. 2 catcher for Tampa Bay, but his surge at the plate in recent weeks has allowed him to cut into Mike Zunino's playing time. Additionally, d'Arnaud's ability to play first base occasionally presents another avenue to entering the lineup.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Reds' Curt Casali: Connects on fifth home run

Casali went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's 17-9 win over the Rockies.

Casali has enjoyed life at altitude through the first two games of the series in Colorado, notching a two-hit performance in both contests. He could get a breather Sunday as the Reds and Rockies wrap up the series with a day game, but Casali remains locked in as the Reds' No. 1 catcher with Tucker Barnhart (oblique) not believed to be close to returning from the 10-day injured list.

  • Zack Collins C | CLE

White Sox's Zack Collins: Snaps hitless run

Collins went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 13-2 loss to the Athletics.

Collins, who made just his fourth start at catcher, reached base safely via a hit for the first time in 24 at-bats. He homered in his first official at-bat June 21 and didn't get another one until his seventh-inning single Saturday. Collins' roster spot is not expected to survive the impending return of Welington Castillo (oblique), which could happen this coming week.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Hits solo homer

Mejia went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-5 extra-inning loss to the Braves.

Mejia's third homer of the season came in the fifth inning against starter Julio Teheran, tying the game at two. The catcher is hitting .212/.259/.356 this season, adding only eight RBI and 10 runs scored over 35 games.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Hits 19th blast

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, two runs and a walk during a 10-4 victory over the Pirates on Saturday.

The catcher smashed his home run in the first, and the Cubs were off and running. Chicago scored seven runs in the first inning, turning this one into a blowout early. Contreras is slashing .286/.382/.565 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI, 43 runs and one steal in 306 plate appearances this season.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: On bench Saturday

Thaiss is not starting Saturday against Seattle.

Thaiss started four of the six previous games but will sit Saturday, likely due to the Mariners starting lefty Wade LeBlanc. If Thaiss is indeed in a platoon role, he could find himself on the bench frequently over the next few days, with the Angels facing three lefties in their next five contests. David Fletcher will start at third base Saturday, with Luis Rengifo at second.
