Gomes went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.

Gomes hit a two-run home run -- his 15th of the year -- off reliever Heath Hembree and later slashed his 24th double off Hector Velazquez. Gomes is hitting .326 with three homers and six RBI in his last 12 games and has secured a hit in six straight games. Overall the backstop is slashing .266/.313/.445 with 46 RBI and 50 runs in 107 games this year.

Hedges is not in Friday's starting lineup against the Dodgers.

Hedges is slated for another day off after sitting out Wednesday and getting a scheduled off day Thursday. Francisco Mejia will handle the catching duties and bat fifth in his stead.

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Vazquez will head to the bench after starting Thursday's game, and has started back-to-back contests only once since returning at the start of September. Sandy Leon will start behind the plate and bat ninth for the Red Sox.

Jansen is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Jansen hits the bench for the third time in the last four games as the Blue Jays appear to be protecting the young catcher down the stretch. The 24-year-old had a hot start when he was first recalled in August, but is slashing .171/.256/.371 over 35 at-bats in September.

Sanchez is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Sanchez finds himself on the bench after being in the starting lineup for the last 10 games, going 6-for-32 with eight walks in 41 plate appearances. Austin Romine returns from a stiff neck to start behind the plate and bat eighth for the Yankees.

Mesorace (neck) returns to the starting lineup Friday in Washington.

Mesoraco has been out since Sept. 3 with neck discomfort. The Mets are carrying four catchers at the moment, so it's unclear how much playing time he'll receive over the final nine games of the season.

Plawecki is not starting Friday against the Nationals.

Plawecki finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. Devin Mesoraco returns from his neck injury to start behind the plate.

Barnhart is not in the lineup Friday against the Marlins.

Barnhart sits after making three straight starts. Curt Casali will be the backstop in his absence.

Contreras will not start Friday against the White Sox.

Contreras has been in a bit of a slump lately, hitting just .167/.286/.214 over the last 16 games. Victor Caratini will get the call behind the plate.

Narvaez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Indians.

Narvaez started a third straight game as Welington Castillo (elbow) remained sidelined and is making the most of this opportunity. The homer was his second in three games, third in his last four, and extended his current hitting streak to five contests. Earlier this summer, Narvaez thrived with consistent at-bats, so he might be a nice play while Castillo's elbow prevents him from playing.
