Carson Kelly C | CHC
Cubs' Carson Kelly: Absent again Monday
Kelly (illness) didn't play in Monday's game against the Rockies.
Kelly wasn't listed among the Chicago starters for Monday's series opener as he continues to deal with an illness. Reese McGuire handled the catching duties Monday and would presumably be in line for another look behind the dish Tuesday if Kelly is unable to go. He can continue to be considered day-to-day until further notice.

Elias Diaz C | KC
Padres' Elias Diaz: Sitting Monday
Diaz is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Marlins on Monday.
For a second straight game, Martin Maldonado will start behind home plate while Diaz begins the contest in the dugout. Diaz has slashed .250/.278/.365 with six runs scored and a solo home run over 54 plate appearances since the beginning of May.

Chadwick Tromp C | ATL
Orioles' Chadwick Tromp: Joining O's
The Orioles selected Tromp's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Tromp will provide temporary depth at the catcher position after Adley Rutschman (head) sustained what appears to be a minor injury Sunday. He'll operate as Baltimore's backup catcher behind Maverick Handley until Rutschman is back in action. Tromp appeared in two MLB games this season with Atlanta before being DFA'd on April 6.

David Fry C | CLE
Guardians' David Fry: Rehab shifts to Triple-A
Fry (elbow) will continue his rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Fry has appeared in six games during his current rehab stint, with three coming in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and the other three coming with Double-A Akron. Despite hitting a combined 1-for-17 in those games, Fry will advance to Columbus. Last season, Fry appeared in over 15 games at designated hitter, catcher, first base and left field while also picking up a few starts at third base and right field. He'll be limited exclusively to DH once he's activated from the 60-day injured list, as he's not expected to be able to play the field at any point in 2025 after undergoing a UCL revision surgery on his throwing elbow last November.

Adley Rutschman C | BAL
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Not in lineup Monday
Rutschman (head) isn't part of the Orioles' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Rutschman was removed from Sunday's game shortly after taking a foul tip to his catcher's mask in the third inning. It's still unknown if he is in concussion protocol, but interim manager Tony Mansolino called Rutschman's exit precautionary. Maverick Handley will catch and bat ninth in place of Rutschman.

Gary Sanchez C | MIL
Orioles' Gary Sanchez: Taking BP on field
Sanchez (wrist) participated in on-field batting practice Monday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Sanchez has been sidelined since April 28 due to right wrist inflammation, but he's been making solid progress in his recovery. Considering he's been out for almost a month, Sanchez will likely require a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list.
-
Freddy Fermin C | SD
Royals' Freddy Fermin: On bench Monday
Fermin isn't part of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Fermin drew four consecutive starts behind the dish, but he'll get the day off Monday while Salvador Perez catches. Fermin has a four-game hit streak, and he's doubled twice during that stretch.

Hunter Goodman RF | COL
Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Sitting Monday
Goodman is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
Goodman has been a top-three catcher for traditional fantasy leagues so far this season on account of his .275 average, seven homers, one steal, 31 RBI and 25 runs scored. He has been anchoring the Colorado lineup in the No. 3 spot but will get a rare day off with the Rockies playing an early-afternoon game on Memorial Day. Jacob Stallings will catch for starter Carson Palmquist while Nick Martini serves as the designated hitter.

Carlos Narvaez C | BOS
Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Batting cleanup
Narvaez batted cleanup and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Orioles.
That's two games in a row in the cleanup spot for Narvaez, who has earned a promotion. He's hit safely in seven consecutive games and reached base in nine of the last 10, going 16-for-35 (.457) with six walks, four doubles, one home run, four RBI, one steal and six runs during that span. Sunday's stolen base was his first of the season. Narvaez has moved ahead of Connor Wong as Boston's primary catcher.

Jose Trevino C | CIN
Reds' Jose Trevino: Stays productive
Trevino went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 11-8 loss to the Cubs.
Trevino had another productive day at the plate, singling in a run in the first inning and doubling home a run in the fifth that gave the Reds an 8-3 lead at the time. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the bullpen gave it all back and then some. Trevino is enjoying a career season with a line of .298/.333/.500 through 36 games. He remains the backup to Tyler Stephenson, but the Reds like to use the starter at DH as well, which gets Trevino in the lineup three to four times per week.
