McGuire underwent successful arthroscopic surgery for a meniscus tear in his right knee, John Lott of The Athletic Toronto reports.

This explains why McGuire was on the disabled list with Double-A New Hampshire. He'll head to Dunedin to rehab for the time being, and while the Blue Jays expect McGuire back this season, they have yet to put a timetable on his return.

Plawecki was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Plawecki has just three hits during his limited time in the big leagues this season, and with Travis d'Arnaud and Asdrubal Cabrera back from injury, there's no need for the 26-year-old backstop on the roster. D'Arnaud and Rivera are expected to share duties behind the plate once d'Arnaud is activated.
